HELP! What is this part?

Hello! I recently purchased a '97 T4R. It has an Addicted Offroad rear bumper and I have a (possibly silly) question to ask. There are these white bracket-looking features on the left and right rear, which this bumper now covers. I assume that these brackets were also covered up by the original bumper, or are in some way related to the stock rear bumper assembly.

I am just trying to figure out what these parts are called, and if there is any way of covering them over. I love the look of the aftermarket bumper but I am not the biggest fan that you can see these brackets so clearly, it looks a little tacky to me.

So—what are they and can they be covered? THANKS.

That's the air vent, mine only has one on the driver's side. Paint it black or body color?

Yup, that's a vent and it's there for a reason. I wouldn't cover it. I second the suggestion to pop it off and hit it with some rattlecan black, it won't be near as noticeable.

If you cover it you will have pressure issues in the car when you run your A/C or heater. They will also not be nearly as efficient since the air coming in will have a hard time finding a way back out.

I'll see about popping it off, might see if I can get some body color spray.
