Help! When engaging 4 wheel drive i have binding and hesitation?

Hey guys any help would be nice on my 2004 4 runner when i engage or dis-engage my 4 wheel drive i get some binding and hesitation before it will engage or dis-engage? Any thoughts? Actuator?

I would take it to the dealer, or a toyota mc to have them check it, to replace the actuator you have to split the transfer case... unless you are up for it. Its a little bit more complicated than a basic 4x4 system.

It almost sounds to me like its hanging/ not shifting correctly. I have hear that some dealers can un stick it but...

make sure you aren't moving, and are in neutral. give it 5-10 seconds from when you turn on/off before putting it back into drive. Mine does this on occasion and I don't worry about it. As long as it works you're probably fine.

what do you mean they can unstick it but...??

Now from what i understand their is a actuator in the front diff. also....so their is 2 actuators.

Unsure what you mean by binding but a pause or waiting is typical. When you are rolling and go into and out of 4WD take your foot of the gas pedal for a couple seconds than gently reaccelerate. That usually does the trick for me. In snow or under load it can take longer. The system seems to like the foot of the gas pedal.
