Help with debadging/paint color and identifying wheels

I have a few questions in this thread. I've done a lot of searching around on this forum.

Background:

First, here is a picture of my truck as it sits now.

I decided to Plastidip my emblems on the truck. After I did that, I decided I didn't want them at all because I didn't like how it looked. With this I noticed I got a little bit of Plastidip splatter outside the emblems. Would it be ok to just scrub that residue off?

Second, when I removed the Limited emblem on the side with dental floss, and removed the remaining sticky residue with my finger nail and the help of a blow drier, I used a microfiber cloth and some goo be gone to remove the rest. Afterwards, this remained.

What is this **** and how do I get rid of it? I'm afraid it's the clearcoat.....


Lastly, I was thinking about painting the wheels flat black or gunmetal gray, what do you guys think?

Thanks for identifying my wheels for me. I thought they'd be American Racing, but I never saw this particular model anywhere.

How do I remove that residue?

Maybe you could try wet sanding it with 1200 grit sandpaper than buff it with some kind of rubbing compound. I have the same "ghost" emblems and i plan to sand and buff.

Man it sucks you plastidipped the emblems. I have been on a hunt for gold emblems to replace my worn ones.

Anyway, you have ghosting going on with the paint. You can try a rubbing compound to try to revive the area some. If you had a polishing machine you could wet-sand it with 2000 to 3000 grit sandpaper and then polish it out. The black 4runners actually don't have clear coat so don't be surprised when the compound turns grey.

This could be dangerous. I wouldn't do it.

I had this same issue when I debased some on the rear hatch. Rubbing compound made it much worse in my case. It might work for you, just be careful.

I have the same color combo truck add you and I tried black and gunmetal and didn't like either one. Black was okay but too many people have done black. Gunmetal was really bad. I think it was because it introduced a 3rd color which was too many. It looks confusing and award IMO. I finally settled of a paint color that matched my trim, and I think it looks awesome. Check out my build for pictures and maybe you can save yourself some work.

Best way to remove those marks on the paint without destroying it IMO. Heat up a wet cloth in the microwave until its hot to the touch, (preferably microfiber) Then apply a slight bit of simple green to the cloth and firmly rub. Should come right off.

"Goof off" works too if you think its residue. I used this on my paint and it didn't do anything harmful to it.

If its clear coat then you might be outta luck, but could probably make it look decent with a round of light rubbing compound, cleaner wax and finish wax.

The least aggressive way to tackle the leftover badge shadowing is a claybar.

There is plenty of helpful information about using a claybar all over the internet.

You can get a claybar kit from any of your local auto parts stores or Walmart for around 15-20 bucks.
