I’ve looked around for anyone who has made a roof rack themselves. I really like the manufactured options but I don’t have 1000 or a few weeks to wait for one. If anyone reading this can point me where to look for details on the gutter mounting will save me a ton of time and probably breaking something. From the pictures I have been looking at on bing and google I can’t tell if I need to drill through the roof or if there is a “C” channel that the rubber runner is covering. Any help is appreciated!

Its a 5th gen thing, 4th gens don't need to drill anything. As far as I know.

The 4 harder plastic pieces that are in the channel pops out, you'll see the pre mounting setup in there. You'll need round plastic spacers to sit on the bolt on sections.
Thank you, Having fun. I see the bolt holes now. I went off looking for some mounts for that. I found am ARB mounting foot set but looks like the old style that has the gutter rail clamps. Has anyone bought or seen the ARB mount set? The description says it’s fpr the 4th gen but the pic looks like it’s for a gutter rail mount.

I have, its an full side rail that attaches at the stock foot pad area. I was confused by the picture too. You could easily attach something to this and save a few bucks.

I went with the ARB touring rack. There are three mounting points (flat pad area) on the side bars that you could easily attach something to. I was almost going to use my old Yakima Megawarrior basket but got a good deal on the ARB, would have been easy to attach it.

If you are creative, Rocky Mountain Racks sells just the mounting feet, which you can then build off of. They are made of 6061 Aluminum and provide a base you can build from if a full rack is not in the budget.
