Help with lift and tires rubbing

I bought this 2011 4Runner a month or so ago. When I bought the truck it had 285/70/17 tires on it. They rub every time I back up while turning. The previous owner had already cut the fender liners. It needed new tires so I ordered some new Falcon Wildpeaks in the same tire size thinking I would just get a 3” body lift to cure the rubbing problem.

So I took the truck to the shop to get lifted and they called me back and said that it already had a 3” body lift on it. I asked him what I could do to solve the tire rubbing issue as I couldn’t exactly return the tires I just bought. He suggested wheel spacers. From what I’ve read on here that doesn’t help with rubbing. I’ve been looking into a bilstein suspension lift. The 5100 or 6000 something people on here are doing

My question is with my current approx 3” body lift will I gain any additional height by swapping out the springs? Is there an easier way for me to get enough additional clearance so my tires will stop rubbing?

When you say "body lift", do you just mean lift via suspension or spacers? A body lift is not the same thing. I may be off base here, but I've never heard of someone doing a 3" body lift on these.

Anyway, lifting isn't going to help you fit those tires. You probably need to chop the body mount, that's my guess. But if you can't tell us where it's rubbing, it will be hard to help. Body mount is on the rear of the tire.

It’s spacers. What do you mean by chopping the body mounts. I’m new to all this. It’s rubbing on the front tires when turning. I guess I don’t know exactly where on the tire.

Search "Body Mount Chop" in the search bar of the forum and do some digging.

There are a few standard items that people often run into when running that size tire.

• Fender Liner adjustment
• Body Mount Chop
• Trimming of bumper cover
• Caster adjustment

Searching any of those things should bring up relevant results. There are a million threads here about this exact problem you have. But the first thing you should do is find out exactly where you are rubbing, so you know what you have to adjust.

An option could be to go with Spc, tc or icon upper control arms, will give you more camber caster pushing the wheel forward resulting in better clearance.
