Help with Locking Gas door...

All I have a 2006 T4R Ltd. Over the last year, I have had trouble with the locking gas cap door. It opens fine via the lever when I need to fill up. However, it becomes difficult to close and lock. Won't catch. Don't want to slam it and damage it further. Even if I try to close it carefully and apply a little pressure to get it to click and lock, it doesn't. Adjusting the metal bracket is also tricky since that might stop the door itself from closing.

Has anyone had this issue, and would anyone know of a fix, short of replacing the mechanism (expen$ive, I'm sure...)? Perhaps, one need only replace the catch pin?

I don't know if it's the same thing you're experiencing but my cable comes loose sometimes and the little nib that holds it shut doesn't stick out far enough. I have to open the spare tire tool compartment and reach in there and push the cable back to the all the way out position and it catches.

For mine, I'd need to replace the cable to fix it and it doesn't happen all the time so I just deal with it when it sticks.
