help with shocks

did a spacer lift this weekend, and noticed this when the rear driver side wheel was removed.

all the other shocks looked clean, but this one looks to have a slight oil leak. The 2007 sport does have the Xreas system. I have about 45000 miles on it, and i do a little off roading, which includes towing a light trailer with two quads. I do not feel any issues when driving, towing, etc...

I have started to price some new shocks. I will probally try to do the work myself, seeing how the spacer lift project wasnt too bad.

However, after doing some research, i guess a little bit of leaking is ok?
Or have people found that with the Xreas system, even with the minor leak that this should be replaced?

PS, btw here is a pick after the 2.5/1.5 DS lift...

The xrears system is a pressurized system so if a shock is leaking I would imagine that it would no longer work the way it was designed. If it was me I would loose the xrears altogether. I did and never regretted it.

Good looking 4runner! Unfortunately XREAS leaks are pretty common. IMO your best bet is switching to an aftermarket shock. Many guys here have done so, and very few if any regret it. I have XREAS, and I rode with a guy who swapped his out for Bilstein 5100's and FJ coils, his is way smoother and rides better than mine, no doubt about it. The 5100's are great shocks, I'd suggest them or some other regular shock, depending on your use. You can't beat the 5100/FJ coils for a highway/mild off road setup.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I love the makeover with the lift and tires.

in the near future, i will probally replace all the shocks.

i am looking at the 5100's for the front. I guess i could either remove the front spacer and set the Bilstein at the highest setting, or keep the spacer and set the Bilstein at the lowest setting. Not sure if either will make a difference in ride, or height.

For the back, i was looking at the FJ springs, not sure which shock for the back yet, probally the Bilstein 5100's.

Side track: How long have you had the tires on there? I just had a set of TSR's on mine about 2 weeks ago and love them so far! You truck is so close to mine but with a hood scoop!

Back to the topic: You should probably start planning for the 5100's in the future, but you will last a while with a small leak like that.
