HELP. Won't start

The 4runner wouldn't start this morning. I went to the garage to leave this morning and I heard this clicking noise. I thought it was the freezer or something but then realized it was coming from under my hood.

I guess it started clicking last night some time cause my battery was dead. Has anyone had this happen to them? I would love to get some feedback cause I'm at whits end trying to figure it out.

My runner is a 2001 sr5 with 213k. I checked all my connections to the battery and they were all tight.

I'm sure there's lots of people who've had their battery die. Clicking is a great indication of a dead battery.

I have had a battery die to. But, I didn't even have the key in the ignition nor was I even in the car. The runner was doing it all by its self. and it wasn't the normal clicking that you hear when trying to start a dead battery. It was like I was inside turning on the keys to right before the starter engages and then turning the key back off.

I hope that it is just a dead battery, That would be a killer fix. Ive just never had a car do this before

oh I see what you're saying. You might have something staying on causing it to drain your battery, but cars do weird things with low voltage. More than likely just a dead battery. The alarm might of been attempting to go off.

Ive got the battery on a charger while i'm at work. Ill check and see if it works when i get home for lunch. hopefully that's all it is just a battery. Its never had any problems before so its a little bit of a supprise.
 
Well:

1) charge up your battery and then remove the negative terminal wire.
2) Remove the keys from the ignition.
3) Try to gently touch the negative wire to the negative terminal and see if there is an arc of electricity. (If there is, then your truck is pulling continuous power, and killing your battery.)

How old is your battery? How are the terminals looking? I had intermittent battery issues and noticed that at the battery, it was producing 13.2V but on the positive terminal wire, it would only measure @ .85V, so I took off the wire and sanded down my terminals and re-installed both of the wires. And finally, my terminal wire measured 13.2V afterwards.

Thanks for the heads up. Ive had the Runner for over a year (apx 1.5) Same battery. Ill check the terminals but they seem to be good but you never know. That weird thing is that it was running just fine yesterday morning. Right now the negative terminal is off while charging up the battery. Ill check for a spark when I put it back on. Ill clean them before I reattach.

Do you happen to have a multimeter?
