Help!!

So I am at the tiny shop right now and the guy tells me to come take a look at my truck and make sure the tint is to my liking. He tries to start it up, it just keeps cranking but never catches. He says that he thinks it could be engine immobilizer system because that can disable the engine from starting. The battery seems fine but when I crank it, the little oil light turns off when it's cranking and then when I stop cranking it, it goes back on. Other than that, there is no other symptoms. Anyone have any experience with this problem?! I don't want to be stuck in the tint shop all day! On the bright side, my windows look GREAT!

What did they touch? It is a tow to the dealership on their dime if you cannot get it to start.

Check the voltage of the battery first.
 
Oil light is fine. It's always on when the key is one. Should be off when the engine is cranking because the oil pump is running.

Do you have a keyless entry? Does it have the Toyota VIP security system? Sounds like something is out of sync with the factory keyless entry which I believe (but can't swear to) also acts as an alarm.
 
Did the tint shop disconnect the battery or anything for some reason that could have reset the security system? If it worked when you drove it in there, and doesn't when they're done, they've done something while it was in there to mess it up IMO.
 
Here's where the story gets tricky. It finally started up out of nowhere and I drove it home. I got home at around 3:30 central time and turned it off. I just went out and tried to start it and it would crank, sputter, the rpms would hang around 500, and then it turned off. I tried again to start it, and it sputtered and then immediately turned off. I'm giving it a little bit of time and then I'll go and try to start it again. I don't think the tint shop did anything to battery. They told me that they left the ignition on so that they could roll the windows up and down for about an hour and then they tried starting it, and it started up fine. Then I got there, and it out of the blue wouldn't start. I'm thinking it's the fuel pump on account of it sputtering and dying out.

Put a charger on your battery for a little while until it is fully charged. See what happens after that. How far from the shop do you live? Your alternator might not have had enough time to fully charge the battery back. Just a suggestion.

Whoa thats freaky weird, few years ago when I had my truck tinted, it did the same exact thing, loose battery connection. Other than that the only connection between a runner and my old powerstroke is they both have 4 wheels a transmission and steering wheel
 
Probably not it but it's not uncommon for tint shops to disconnect the battery when they are working. They keep the doors open a lot so they cut the power to keep from draining the battery. Any chance they didn't tighten it down good enough if they did disconnect it?

I had some tint work done on the RX-8 we had before the 3rd gen, and they were notorious for flooding easy on startup, especially if cold or getting weak juice from the battery. I told the guy about it and he told me not to worry because he was going to disconnect the battery anyway. Fortunately, no issues.
 
I hope it's not the fuel pump! Any chance that it could be the spark plugs. I talked to my dad about it and he told me to pull the spark plugs and if they dirty to get new ones because it sounds like it's not firing because when I crank it, I can smell the gas, but I don't see any leaks or anything, no fuel on the ground, etc. Hopefully the spark plugs fix it and I don't have to take it anywhere because my mechanic is out of town until July 1 and I'll be out of town from June 30th to August 1.

Also, do you think running this gas out and then putting a tank of 93 octane in it will help anything? Does anyone like a particular brand of spark plugs? On the upside, my windows look fantastic. I'll make another thread with pics in it if you want to see my windows.
 
Checking and changing the plugs is easy enough to do and cheap enough. Running a tank of ethanol free high octane now and then is never a bad idea either. I doubt running high end gas alone is going to fix a problem like that. Check the plugs and see what they look like. If it were me, though, if I'm gonna pull the plugs out and put them back in, I'm going to replace them no matter how they look when they come out.
