My sister has a '99 SR5 4X4 and needs good all season tires for Colorado Snow. What do you 3rd gen guys recommend buying. She doesn't do any off road but doesn't want a tire that looks like it should be on a mini van. She does mostly city but a little highway driving. Also do you think LT, P, C....??

I don't have experience with a lot of tires, very limited experience actually, but I have been very pleased with my Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10's. I've only had them for a few months and mostly on dry road, but they are smooth, quiet, and from the reviews I've read, an overall excellent tire. A lot of the info I've read people have remarked about how well they perform on snow/ice. I'm not saying they're the best, but I'd most definitely consider them. They are listed in my sig, click on that and it'll take you to my writeup with pics (4th gen, but will give you an idea). A lot of guys prefer Bridgestone Revo's, but I just couldn't spend that much money when the Hankooks are preferred by people who have owned both (that I've spoke with). I got 5 of the Hankooks for about the same as 4 Revo's would have cost, pretty big difference. More info in this thread, look for Burt's post (#6) as he's in the Denver area and fully satisfied. Also, read reviews here.

ArkSwamp's Hankooks would be a fine choice. Some others that would fit the bill are the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour (don't confuse with lesser model Goodyear's), Bridgestone Revo 2, Firestone Destination A/T.

The Revo is the most expensive and most civilized/advanced. All of them are really good as is the Nitto Terra-Grappler.

for a sister I would stick with a P series

most of us who off road at least a bit occasionally favor a LT or light truck rated tire,

For a sister who never offroads I would probably recommend a P or passenger series tire. It will ride a bit smoother, be a bit quieter and just a bit softer so to speak.

I have heard good things about those Hankooks, not sure if they come in a P series but they probably do. If money is no object then some Michelins are almost always a good investment, they will cost more but deliver incredible longevity.
