I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Hensley Arrow Brake controller. It was expensive, but IMO made very very well.
I didn't want to modify or cut into the dash to mount the brake controller, so I purchased a replacement fuse cover and mounted the controller on the fuse cover. When I don't need to use the brake controller I disconnect the controller and I replace the fuse cover with the original we're back to a clean dash. I'll post a pic later if folks are interested in how it looks.
I'm towing the camper on sept 13 to Kansas, so I'll find out how well it works on that trip.
