My best advise in that situation is to predetermine a cash price that would make you never regret selling, and start throwing it out there. I used to own a piece of junk 1966 Ford E100 pickup that rolled around on leaking airbags and pulled to the right under hard braking, people regularly asked if I wanted to sell it, and I'd always tell them $7500 cash (I had $3000 in it). One day a guy bit on that offer and asked me to meet him at his bank the next day with the paperwork, and I did. Within a month of selling it I had found a much more desirable 1950 Chevrolet Styleline, and I've never looked back!

My previous 3rd gen I've had a few people ask me if it was for sale or if I would sell it to them.

The first guy asked me and I didn't even have the tag on it yet. The 2nd guy was a construction worker in my neighborhood that was building a new house.

Once it sold I was asking 3rd gen owners locally if they would sell me their rigs. No go though

We just got back from buying my wife a 2011 Highlander from a Toyota dealership in Sandusky, OH. Two salesmen and the GM immediately asked if we were trading in my 3rd gen. I was honored to have there attention but couldn't help but reply with "hell no". My wife thinks it's funny that my 14 yr old Runner with 180k miles gets that much attention when we're out.

Haha, they always do that! Any time I rolled up in my wife's Corolla (RIP) they would swarm me and ask "Are you looking to trade that in? We've got some great deals today (blah blah blah)...". When I would drive up in my old 91 Pickup though, nobody would say anything LOL!

I once had some high school kid tell me my "vintage" 91 Pickup looked awesome. It made me feel really old.

Have had more offers to buy my truck (F150, lifted, SAS'd, locked, straight body panels, rust-free) a few times, but never the 4runner (completely stock).


Neither are for sale.

Has not happened to me, and doubt it will ever happen. If there are any 4Runner enthusiasts in Kansas City, they are far and few in between. This city is saturated with hipster crossovers and mommy-dominating Suburbans.

I get lots of compliments on mine, often times at stop lights during the summer. But have never had anyone randomly offer to buy it. If they did my response would be, "you wouldn't be interested once you find out how much I want for it". Thats the problem I have with selling my 3rd gen. Its worth more to me than what a buying would be willing to pay for it

I've had a few notes left, but that's it. My wife and I have had this conversation before and have both decided we aren't going to let our '99 go for any amount that someone would feasibly offer. We have had bad luck with used vehicles, so our mindset is it would take a lot of money to replace it with something as reliable, capable and that we enjoy as much as we have ours. I'm thinking $10k plus might make me consider it, and I don't see that offer coming anytime soon. (ours is a Base '99 4x4 with 115k miles)

My plan was to build a capable rig that someone can't go to the dealer and buy... And keep it under 20k total which I know I did with out adding the receipts.... Annnnnnd that's how I justify it to myself

I've only had a random person ask once, but I have several friends that have asked me to give them a shot at it if I ever decide to sell it.

Where I live in FL the 4WD isn't a big selling point. We don't have snow, and there's a limited amount of 4 wheeling to be done. But I grew up in the VA mountains, and up there they appreciate a Toyota that's in good shape with no rust. I'm pretty sure I could sell it and break even on it right now (purchase price and all parts installed to date), even though I've put about $30k miles on it since I've owned it.

Yeah my dad had some guy begging him to sell it to sell the 4runner to him because he had a 4runner but traded it in for a saturn back in the day. He said he regretted it looking back. He offered the saturn he had and cash along with it. My dad just laughed.

I had my friends neighbor ask me if I would sell it and to name my price but I wasn't interested one bit. He ended up buying one of the same color combo but a 99.

I've also had mechanics at local shops if I would sell it. I also said no. It has way too much sentimental value for me to sell it.

I had mine for less than 24 hours before someone asked me if I'd sell it. I laughed so hard, it took months to find it. Around here they either are WAY overpriced, or totally destroyed. Finding the one I bought at the price I paid was nothing short of miraculous!

I've had multiple offers.... from multiple people. One of which is my Brother in-law, he offers to buy it at least once or twice a year.... lol! Posted this pic on Facebook today... he offered me $8000.00.
