Hi Beam issue

Hey T4R family,

2000 T4R Sr5 3.4L.

As ya'll know we got those dim running lights. So I turn on the lights last night and low beams work great. all good.

turn on Hi Beams by pushing switch/lever forward and lever moves, but nothing changes.... no indicator hi beam light, no hi beam lights.

i pull the lever back towards me to see if hi beams will flash, and they do....indicator light comes on, and hi beams work.

When I pull lever toward me, and the hi beams work, i hear a click over by fuse box passenger side.

oreillys says bad switch... does it need cleaning? pb blaster lube or something? $92.

Autozone says switch $66.

Could it be a relay? or the switch?

First, check the little DRL fuse. That can stop all kinds of things from working. Next, test the switch before changing it. This means you need a test light, and you need to find either end of the violet wire that goes from the stalk switch to the Main DRL relay. That should be grounded when the stalk switch is on High. To test that, put your test light clip on a 12V+ source, like the the pattery positive, and put your probe to the violet wire. If it goes on, switch is good, and it's probably the DRL relay, but could be the dimmer relay. Test the switch and report back.

2000 was first year (except Canada).

My guess would be headlight stalk.

I had a headlight issue with my 97. Changed stalk and no more issues.

Thank you! I will print off that wire diagram and save your directions.

yesterday I got access to the stick, and cleaned out the switch with PB silicone lube, sprayed osme in there, worked the switch a bit. dielectric grease on the connections, it was really clean in there.

tested it all and it works now.

So, time will tell but if this thing is going out, I'm thinking I'll jsut have to replace it anyways but cleaning it out and things worked for now.
