And not to mention the 4 wheel drive capabilities. I know I wouldn't want to be anywhere in one. Also, there just aren't enough amazing parts for them out there. And nobody has any ingenuity with their own builds and can never get any help from others when trying to figure something out on the truck.

Just do some research and test drive a few. In the end, YOU are the one who's going to be driving some type of vehicle, be it a 4Runner or not. Can't just go by what our opinions are. I really enjoy mine and will most likely get another one when or if I decide to part with my current one.

Your rephrased question makes about as much sense as the orignal. Sorry you are getting pounced on here as a newbie but, to be blunt, you basically asked for it.

Perhaps you can ask in a way that has been asked here hundreds of times. For example, "Hi, I'm new here and am considering a new or used 5th gen 4Runner purchase. Are there any years or features I should look for or avoid and what are the reasons?"

That said, you aren't likely to hear anyone here tell you to avoid the 4Runner and go buy something else. This is an enthusiasts forum for 4Runner owners. First of all, it's a Toyota - so that should tell you it's a dependable vehicle. Secondly, it's a 4Runner, so it's a very capable and versatile vehicle. It can serve anything from a soccer mom, a grocery getter, to mild or even wild off-roading.

You could add what purposes you are considering a SUV but there is probably not much you could name as a purpose that the 4Runner won't fit.

You should not expect any broken parts or failures within the first year of driving on pavement. Again, it's a Toyota!

Don, you're catching a little heat for two reasons: First, your questions are really, really vague, and as such are difficult to answer. Second, this is a forum made up of 4Runner enthusiasts, but even so I have seen pretty even-handed advice meted out to more distinct questions.

I suggest posting your budget estimate, your intended use/requirements, and better thought-out questions.

AS STATED, THIS IS A 4RUNNER ENTHUSIAST FORUM. A VERY HIGH PERCENTAGE OF US LOVE THE VEHICLE, BUT WE ARE CLUELESS AS TO WHAT YOU WANT IN A VEHICLE.

Nothing. I put 42k on my truck in less than 18 months driving all over this country.

Don, my daughter is still driving our 2000 3rd gen 4runner with over 140k on it, if that helps. Never had a major issue. Been serviced regularly and has had a couple of sensors replaced. I replaced the radiator as a preventative measure (search pink milkshake 3rd gen) and it still looks and drives almost like new.

You need to post more info on what you are looking for, why, and your budget.

Suspecting a troll here though. So if that's the case - go find something better to do with your time.

What I was saying was to go out and test drive all of the 4Runner models first to see which you prefer. Compare those to other vehicles on your list and then you can make your decision.

Depending on if you are going to take your vehicle off road and how far you will push your truck off road, things will fail. It's inevitable. If you're just going to keep the truck on road, you shouldn't see any abnormal issues. Like with any vehicle, keep up with scheduled maintenance and you should be alright.

Everybody on here really enjoy their 4Runners. Everyone has a different use for them and those who modify them choose to to suit their needs. So far, I have loved everything about my truck. As my truck is my daily driver, I am always walking a fine line of how extreme I can get with modifications of my truck. I'll drive over 500 miles in a day for work in it and then I'll off road with members from here on the weekends. It has been very reliable thus far. That's what I think of my 4Runner. I'd definitely get into another one when the time comes.
