I searched this but couldnt find much info. I wanna order an HID kit in a couple weeks. I want to get the 55wt in either 8000k or 10000k. i also want a plug and play for now, maybe a projector somewhere down the line. What brand do yall recomend? I wanna try and keep it under 150 bucks. Thanks.

I went with vvme , b/c we have the dual filament bulb the high/low beam is in one bulb. most of the high/low kits have a hid low beam and halogen high beam, or just a low beam. the vvme is hid in the high and low beam. have had no problems with mine, i have 35w 6000k . 55w makes them whiter than 35 so i would do 55w 6000k or 4500k as mine are a noticably blue. the vvme also has a casper shield which reduces glare , i think most h4 kits do but i know vvme does for sure. i have ordered from ddmtuning.com 3 times with no issues but didnt want halogen high beam on the 4runner. http://www.vvme.com/12v-5055w-h439003-bixenon-hid-kit-p-31.html?cPath=44_46_35

yea the reason i was thinking along the lines of an 8000k kit is because thats what ive read about the 55w.
edit: nvm. i scanned too quick

ddmtuning may have hid high/low now , at the time i ordered mine they had a halogen high beam. they dont specifically say on the site. if they do i would recommend ddm. never any problems with them except slow shipping. i have a order with them now that i placed friday they prob wont ship until this coming friday, but thats b/c they move alot of hid kits.

I got the DDM Tuning kit, 55W @ 8000K.

They're too bright and too blue..... I'd go with 35W @ 6000K if I had it to do again.

Plus there's not much difference between lo and hi beams...

i have 55w 5000k ddm hids in a set of hella 700s on my 4runner, but the 55 watt hid is gonna be overkill for street driving. You are gonna blind other drivers! its rude

I just saw the op has a 97 , i believe the 97 will have alot worse glare than the 99+ does due to the housings. the plastic on the 99+ is completely clear

First upgrade has to be 99-02 headlights. I couldnt imagine running hids in the factory 97 lights. I snooped around ebay and got the pair for 125 with shipping. Just make sure to get nice looking used Toyota branded lights.

i have the 35w 6000k high/low kit from DDM. go with that. it has a nice white light with a hint of blue but not too ricer. also, i think i have been flashed maybe once in my over a year of having them. the bulb in the DDM's are a single bulb with a magnetic actuator to move the bulb for high/low. they also have casper shields which give it a pretty good cutoff. with my 99+ headlights, i have a very distinct cutoff.

here is a video of the high/low

I would highly discourage 10000k. They are purple. 8000 is even kinda purple. Your choice though

I'm gonna have to agree. I had 8000k on my 02' Lexus is300 and it was pretty damn blue. I think some cars can pull it off but I wouldn't do it on a 4-runner. I'm running 6000k right now and couldn't happier! I'll try and post up some pics tomorrow night to give you a better idea

ok so i have a DDM Tuning hi/lo 35w 5000k HID kit. It comes with the relay u will need to run the hi/lo and not have to worry about ur wires being burnt... I like the way mine looks bc its bright and white. i was gonna go with the 6000k originally but figured id try the white and i like it much better. Do not get the 55w if ur not gonna get a projector bc mine are really bright as is and so i bet if u get the 55w ud be blinding everyone.

just order a set of HID kits (two types: reg ballast and thin ones)... its all a personal preference. i personally chose the reg ballast bc it takes less time to fully illuminate and the engine bay has plenty or room for it (plus its cheaper!).

So u just need to order a hi/lo kit with watever ballast u want. I would say choose the 5000k or 6000k color but thats up to u and please get a 35w kit. i wanted a 55w kit for a long time but im really glad i got the 35w one bc im already afraid of getting a ticket when i drive by cops since its so bright.

1 hi/lo HID kit will come with the two bulbs in the color u choose, the two ballasts size you choose, the bulb shield to reduce glare, the high output relay, and all the plugs needed. It took about 2 weeks to get my product and installation took about 20 min.

If u need anymore help with the ordering process just let me know.

So I am assuming this is what everyone is ordering:

Apexcone Raptor HID Kit
Wattage : 35W
Bulb Type : H4 Hi/Lo (+20.00)
Bulb Color : 4300-5000 (if trying to keep the purest white)
HID Harness : (Blank/Not ordering or not needed)
Error Code Eliminator : (Blank/Not ordering or not needed)

Bringing total to $50.00

And I saw some people didnt like zip tieing there kits down so they ordered these brackets ( Link )
