HID kits?

Are there any HID "drop in" kits that people have had good results with? I see that most do the retrofit, but I would prefer to keep it more stock looking.

Halogen reflector housings are not designed for HID systems. Don't be that guy that blinds everyone with lights not designed for the housing, then claims they pointed them down.

I have them in my Supra and I don't blind other drivers. I AM the guy who adjusts them! haha

Problem is, the pattern can be so far out that by the time they're actually adjusted far enough down, you don't really have any light left to actually drive by.

I don't know if you'd consider an alternative but I have always hated my headlights and decided to buy brand new 99-02 style housings (TYC brand) and higher wattage headlights (65w low beam vs stock 55w) from Rock auto and they are FANTASTIC. Very bright light and took it out on some mountain roads at night over the weekend and the whole road was lit up! They are brighter than my 24" LED light bar thats 50/50 flood/spot light combo now, when the old headlights didn't even compare.

Best part is the new housings plus the high wattage bulbs can be had for less than $100 shipped.

The OEM housings are designed to work with halogen bulbs only. If you wish to run a different lighting technology, and not serve as a danger to others on the road, you must introduce a new method of projecting the light forward in a proper manner; i.e. projectors.

Please stop making the rest of our community look bad with your dangerous mods.

At least your Supra has a projector in the housing even though it still is not meant for an hid bulb. If you are up for the challenge do a proper retrofit. They look and perform awesome and you won’t regret spending the time or money to do it correctly.

I also think they look out of place and bug-eyed on 3rd gens. But definitely the best route to go if you want to add some lighting without blinding people.

Keeping the stock lighting and adding on driving lights is a good option. These small VisionX Optimus 3.7" pack a punch and I can direct them under the blinding zone.

This was another option I was considering. I have some Baja Design driving lights on my Tacoma and love them.

my college roommate was an engineer for Hella back in the early 2000's when these kits started getting popular. Basically, when you install these kits, every semblance of optical focus is lost. Sure, you have more output but it's going everywhere instead of being focused in front of you. It's way worse.

ok, My learning mode is activated... so bare with me... teach me what I don't know I don't know...

I'm thinking the same route as OP, adding one of the 3 following bulbs to upgrade my head lights... I don't like the DIY projectors, so I'm try'n to find something 'pre-made'.... if one was on the shelf... maybe consider it depending on price... but for now I'm considering the following...

A) $66 AuxBeam - (2PCS/SET) T1 SERIES H4 TEMPERATURE CONTROL LED HEADLIGHT BULBS

B) $88 AuxBeam - (2PCS/SET) W SERIES H4 HI-LO BEAM LED HEADLIGHT CONVERSION BULBS

C) $99 PIAA - H4 (9003) High Output LED Bulbs 6000k Twin Pack

I'm considering just plugging these into the housing, and enjoying... but I do want to be safe... I don't like how dim my 99 bulbs are, they can be better... I've replaced to 2001 bulbs, but they are the same...

what do I "don't know?" about this swap?
