HID len projectors, a possible middleground

I followed this up from a lead at YotaTech. From what I'm seeing this might be the equilibrium between low quality HID's and perfectionist projector retrofit. \

They have also been done in earlier generation 4runners, check the link below for more info. Apparently the drop in process is relatively simple. I'll probably purchasing this in the next couple days so a review will come in time

I've been trying to decide what to do about headlights on my new '99. At first I was just going to put some Silverstar ultra's in. Then I decided I'd get a decent HID kit. Now, I'm thinking HID projectors might be on the agenda. If I do it, I'll definately post it up.

Only thing to be decided is longevity I guess. But if you get me some more pictures and info I'll be purchasing tomorrow. Where did you end up getting them? Remember lots of different pics! Highs, lows, outside, inside, multiple cutoff. I'm kind of compulsive about mod research :bigok:

Hey Miller this is my retrofit. I bought the fx-r projector lense from The retrofit source. Very easy retro to do, hardest thing to do is aligning the beam cut off.

I also just went with silverstar ultras but when driving around at night it still seems like I've got the weakest headlights on the road. I'm looking forward to checking out your results Miller.

Proudrunner, how do you go about focusing the retrofit once installed?

the point of those being cheaper though is that the lens sucks. The light output and is near to stock. The only thing your getting is a cutoff(with no colorband). The reason people usethe fx-r lens or the tsx-r lens is the clear cut quality and clearness in them. Yes they are more expensive but your paying for a quality product. If your going to spend the time on a retrofit why not do it with better products?

Your aiming is not correct. You need to line up the top of the cutoffs, not the top of the driver side with the bottom step of the passenger side. You also need to make sure they are aligned correctly at 25+ feet. Here is a aiming guide I did for G35 coupes, but the same principles apply. Measure the height from ground to the center of the projector lens, then then make sure the cutoffs drop 2-3" @ 25ft.

thats who im going through. i just emailed them and the guy Matt that emailed me back is a really big help. told me if i went with used greddy 35w ballasts and the blemished apollo shroud i could get everything for $320 shipped. thats the full hid kid, fx-r projectors, and shrouds with free shipping

they know their stuff

just want my tax return to get here sooner

Matt is a nice guy to work with, all I bought from him were the fx-r projectors
the shrouds and some 4300k phillips bulb. I already had the ballast and igniter from pnp kit that I had before. I had a pnp kit before once you do the projector retrofit you will never go back.

i didn't want to spend that at this point in time. apparently the output is superior to stock, and with the cut off i think that's a better hundred spent than on a pnp kit that uses stock reflectors. Guess we'll see. plus i'm kind of digging the halo flare
