HID newbie

Hi guys,

So I am pretty new to the HID game. Having said that, I need some technical advice on a set of headlights I recently purchased. The headlights in question are Spyder Halo LED lights

My question is, to have true HID lighting would I need to purchase a HID conversion kit? I believe the manufacturer stated any 35 watt kit would do..? Not only that, but do you need a kit for the high beams and a seperate kit for the low beams? Any advice?

To have true HID's, you'll have to purchase a kit. You can get kits from a bunch of different sites, but a lot of the people on here go with the XenonDepot (KBcarstuff - Your one stop auto accessory super shop. Proudly serving the automotive industry since 2001!) kit. They have great products and their customer service is top notch. They sell various colors, depending on the light output and color you are looking for. You'll just want them for your low beams and possibly fogs. I recently bought a set of the XenonDepot 4300k's because I wanted them to look like OEM.

those lights on photo have crappy projectors. Much worse than OEM 06+ projectors not to mention real HID projectors. Get a set of bi-xenon FX-R's and put them there instead. Day and night difference. Easy to do, couple hours and you done.

Okay, I looked at the 4300k Xtreme HID from that website, but there seem to be a lot of choices (H1, 9004, H10, etc..etc..) How do you know which one to choose for your particular headlamp?

here's mine with the fx projectors with tsx lens with Philips bulbs.

and the second one is with Piaa 520's Fog.

Okay, I looked at the 4300k Xtreme HID from that website, but there seem to be a lot of choices (H1, 9004, H10, etc..etc..) How do you know which one to choose for your particular headlamp?

you should be able to look in your owner's manual to see what size bulb you have. or you can ask xenon depot, im sure they can help pick what kit you need.

So you already have that headlight set ?

Most of that sets in ebay comes with H1 halogen bulbs. If you would like to put in HIDs in there, you need to know what type of bulb will that particular set fits. Take out the bulb and see if its H1, if confirmed, then get a HID Kit with H1 bulb. For beginners, buy a plug n play set..it should consists a ballast and bulb with connectors. Directly replace the halogen bulb that comes with your headlight set with the HID bulb of the same type(when you'll buy a kit), then connect the HID bulb connectors to the ballast and then the ballast to your vehicles headlight wiring. So basically, its just Bulb --> Ballast --> Vehicle's Wiring.
If it won't light up, reverse the connections...there will be instructions in the kit.
Edit : probably you need two bulbs/kit. If it requires 9003/H4 then thats Hi and Low.

But as some have said that the light output of that headlight(pics above) is not great,..(atleast better than having halogens). If you have a 2003-2005 4runner then the best HID setup is to retrofit a HID projector in there. Your fogs may have projectors and it has better light output with HIDs than those aftermarket headlights..

I only have HIDs in the fogs and its ok for my city/highway driving.

It's hard to say what bulb you need without knowing the details of the headlights you bought. The factory headlamp is an H11, but those likely take something different. I'd suggest you email the manufacturer and ask them or see if their website shows more details.

So I got an email back from the manufacturer..they said "any 35wat HID kit will work with these headlight"

Not exactly the details I was hoping for..
