HID Update (Beam Patterns)

I took better pictures of my HID beam pattern today. Here's the link to my retrofit for those who don't know:

The following pictures are without the fogs, and then with my 2500K yellow fogs on.

Hey TranceKrayz, you still around? I really like what you did with your lights. After everything was said and done, how much did your HID conversion cost? I'm still deciding if I should do a conversion similiar to yours or if I should just convert using the '06 projectors (I have an '03). If I remember correctly, it would cost approximately $900 to convert using the '06 projectors. Also, what brand of yellow fogs are you using? Do they make a big difference when it rains or snows? Have you had to replace them yet? I think a few people installed HID kits for their headlamps and also for their fog lights, but wouldn't two HID systems together be too much strain on your battery? (HIDs consume less power than halogens, but don't they need a large burst of energy when they first turn on?) TranceKrayz or anyone else please feel free to answer these questions or throw in any other HID-converting-tips you can think of. It would be a big help since I'm planning on getting started with this project in about a month. Thanks!

I want to do the conversion too. Where can I get the 06 projectors?

I'm half way done with my retrofit project. You can see some pics of my post in following post.

I'm finally done with my mounting bracket and i tested alignment on both headlight last weekend. Now I need to secure all nuts & bolts. For shroud, I'm planning to use 2" flange cover and abs plastic. Hopefully I can get it all done this month. It has been almost 5 months since I started the project. I had been slacking off the project due to other activities during weekend.

to do a retrofit on 03-05 headlight you need:

a pair of projector (runs from 80 to 400 for bi-xenon)
I used tsx which is around $150-180

ballast $200
D2S bulb $80 new
Wiring: $20-30 selfmade

Tools:
Dremel/rotary cut tool
nuts and bolts.
hardware

On 06 headlight, you can skip the shroud/bezel part, but you still need the ballast, bulb and projector.

Hey thanks for the info xnapajx! Actually, I have a few more questions if you don't mind.

1) Where did you get your HIDs? What brand? Are those 6000Ks? Looks cool!
2) Where did you get your TSX projectors? How do you know precisely where to mount them? In addition to aligned it left, right, up and down, does the depth matter (closer or farther away from bulb)?
3) What method did you use to remove the cover off the headlamp? If you used your oven, did you do 250 degrees for about 5 minutes?
4) What do you use to reattach the cover to the headlamp? Silicone?

Any help would be great. I'm not much of a mod guy, so I need all the help I can get!

what will be different will be the beam pattern. Since he used a TSX lens, it'll have cutoff that looks like:

____/---- ____/----



the 06 will have a different beam pattern. While he did a retrofit, one of the hardest things is getting the angle in which to set the lens at.
 
besides the cut-off, is there any other diferrence in overall out put or light dispersion? Are the HID projectors worth the extra money? Or are the 4Runner projectors THAT good?

I just want to know before I spend my money.

comparison of HIDs:

2003 4runner halogen headlight(with modifications) = much better than halogen bulbs but beam pattern sucks due to hot spots/dark spots. not as wide of a pattern.

2006 4runner projector headlight = way better than my 2003 headlight mod plus it gives me a wide even spread of light. I put HID into my fog lights as well... so.. :D
 
I don't understand why Toyota would change the headlight from a reflector to projector in 2006, but change the foglight from a projector to a reflector. So with all the non-2006 4runner owners buying the 06 projectors, is there a way for the '06 owners to buy 05 projector foglights?
 
the 03-05 fog lights aren't going to fit into the 06 fog light space.



one major detail when comparing HIDs to Halogen light output through pictures. The camera has ALOT, I mean ALOT to do when comparing the two. If you use an average camera, it won't pick up the light spread from the halogen.
 
This is why I am planning on buying a 9006 HID kit for my reflectors now, while my Projectors project is in the works. Once I get done with that, then I can place those 9006's in my fogs!:D

So, the question is, who makes the best 9006 rebased kit? XenonDepot, Burtman, or any of the ebay kits?

Is it possible for you to take a picture of the cut off for your 06 projector headlight with HID? I would really like to compare your output to my tsx projector.

When picking up HID kit, try to stay away from non-brand Ballast. People have many problem with them in the past and it
