so i got pulled over tonight for my hid's on my way to practice around 9pm.

the officer said that any aftermarket headlight is illegal in virginia... i played dumb and acted like i didnt know. but he told me that it had to be a factory installed light. and i asked him about retrofits with projectors and he still said it was illegal.

cops around here are real ****s. but luckily he cut me a break,
hahahah you have no idea how stupid i tried acting.

i know he pulled me over cuz of the rims and the lights... he walked up very very slow to my car looking inside with a flashlight on his way to get my license and back to his car. lol i feel like i drive a drug dealer car now hahaha!

if he was a real **** he would have wrote you the ticket. and yea you probably did get racial profiled. thats part of the reason why my dad didn't want me getting big rims, oh well. are you gonna take them out now or leave them in?

Where'd you get pulled over at? Near Mason?

hahahah im leaving them in.

to be honest, retrofitting is just too much work for me

that's what you get for puttin in HID's wrong
All aftermarket HID kits are illegal in all states even if they are properly retrofitted, there is no right way when it comes to legality.

But you got lucky, glad you didn't get a fix it ticket, was he young? How'd he know so much about HID's?

no offense but what do you really expect? your truck looks like 50 cent is going to roll out and shoot the place up. i'm sure the cop was worried about someone shooting his ass through your limo tint as would anybody else next to you at a stop light.

I think that's a little bit extreme...

Lots of cars around Northern Virginia have huge dubs/tint, so it's not exactly like his wheels were the reason he got pulled over. The cop probably realized that he had aftermarket headlights and pulled him over for that only. I've gotten pulled over for just about the exact opposite in my old car (not having my lights on at night) and was still approached by 2 cops with flashlights as they kept the spotlight aimed directly into my driver seat, blinding me the whole time. It's an intimidation method. I have a cousin who is a Sargent and an uncle who is a Captain in the City of Rochester Police and I have talked to them about it (intimidation methods) before. Although not all cops will treat the same situation the same way

Not wanting to start up another HID projector vs. aftermarket discussion, I'll try to keep this short :)

True projectors retrofits are illegal. The only way to have legal HIDs, is to purchase a vehicle that came standard w/ them. However, retrofits are only illegal b/c the headlight housing itself has been modified and the DOT approval is now void. Retrofits are not illegal simply b/c a vehicle has projectors installed that shouldn't. Not only must the projector be mounted correctly, but the bulb must also be an oem 4300K - 5000K color HID bulb...not some 10,000K color bulb. A cop will have no reason to pull you over for a properly installed retrofit. Why would they? The more the retrofit looks oem, the better chance you stand w/ law enforcement.

On the other hand, aftermarket HID bulbs are obvious they are not oem. Just inserting a pair of aftermarket HID bulbs into your stock headlight housings will of course look out of place in any vehicle that was not designed for them. The light emitted scatters all over the place b/c the reflector has no way to control it. Match that w/ a 6000K (or higher) colored bulb and you increase your chances of being pulled over. Aftermarket HID bulbs may or may not blind oncoming traffic, but at the very least they make it more obvious to oncomers that your vehicle has aftermarket bulbs installed than vehicles that don't.

Oh and give the cop some credit for knowing Move120 had aftermarket bulbs. Being that his were also HIDs, I'm sure it was painfully obvious his were aftermarket bulbs. Heck, my friend's son can point out vehicles with aftermarket HIDs and those vehicles with oem HIDs...and he's only 8yrs old (then again, he also knows what to look for). Just b/c other cops may have not have pulled him over in the past, does not mean they didn't know he had HID bulbs. Remember, not all cops are the typical "Barney Fife" of the dept.

BTW FoSheezy, don't take any of the above as offensive. I'm in a really good mood as I type this. :) It's just near impossible to state one's opinion in an online forum w/o coming across as rude and/or arrogant, thus my need to type this disclaimer. We all know emoticons can only go so far. :bigok:

And to Move120, sucks to hear you got pulled over, but that's the risk you run w aftermarket bulbs installed. Granted, some cops could not care less about the bulb in your headlight, others make it their mission to cite you for it. (For example, my next door neighbor has had one headlight out for over 6 months now and he has yet to be pulled over. He's mentioned passing oncoming cops before and they have also yet to pull him over.) Another words, it's all relevant.

I do agree though, you were probably profiled for your wheels and lights (blame that on the drug dealers, not the cops), thus the cop felt the need to pull you over and verify you were not a dope dealer. He could have always given you a citation...

1) alright, black people and/ or rappers are not the only people that buy rims.
2)50 cent would not drive a 4runner.
3)no one just jumps out and start shooting things unless its like a chase.
4)dont diss limo tint...limo tint does not equal a gun, black person, or drug dealer, it just looks better than whatever you have.
5)i'm sorry your too scared to put it on your car
6)do people really shoot people at stop lights for no reason? and why would you shoot through your window?

Unfortunatly alot of conservative and older people have preconcieved ideas about things like that and Rap culture did bring on the baller look with SUVs but it doesn't mean they are right.

Sucks you got pulled over move120, but its sweet you didnt get a ticket!

Can you give me a link with some night pics of your HID's? I wanna see what they look like cause i would have no idea what kind of HID's are retrofitted vs. just a bulb.

no, but rev run drives a sequoia :D

seriously though, be glad he didn't bust you for the lights and tint. i'm sure he could have if he was really an a-hole.

next time they try the spot light in the rear view mirror you should do what i do.

option A (my fav) use the power mirror switch to aim the light right at the officer approaching your door, see how they like being blinded

or option B (you get less shit this way) keep a black shirt in your truck and when you roll down the window and are waiting for him just place it slowly over the mirror.

they kinda walk up on you much faster then, like "you *******, i was trying to blind you and you wont let me"

i have no patience for cops that are on a power trip, give me my ticket and let me go, if your not going to let me go take me in, but dont play head games unless you want them thrown right back at you.

I just think it's expected when you have lights as bright as HID's in housings that create so much glare. You are creating a wall of light more so than a usable beam pattern, and when you factor in some absurd color like dark blue or purple, people won't be happy in oncoming traffic. There's nothing I hate more than a giant blue wall of randomly sprayed light from someone in the other direction with crappy HID's.

Although I don't see the attraction to massive wheels, what's wrong with dark tint according to some of you?

Sorry, thing do not come across the way they are meant to be said on a message board. I think that you have to realize when you do things like put friggin 22 inch wheels and limo tint on your "whip", you are most definately going to be sterotyped/ profiled. It is just a fact of life.

In fact, let's just play a game. I am going to conclude that since he has limo tint and 22 inch wheels that he has no less than 2 12s in the back? Am I right? We have no way of knowing. But would you bet me $100 that he doesn't? Probably not. There you go, we both just stereotyped him. I'll throw another $50 on it that his music collection consists of mostly rap. Any takers? Doubtful.

Sorry for coming across rude, not meaning to me. Everybody is stereotyped/profiled. If you do that to your truck, you're going to get pulled over long before someone who doesn't. Just make sure you put up the funk. Ooops did it again.

you exactly right. People put 8000K & 10000K in reflector housing just to bring attention to themselves, here you go, you got it from law enforcement

Sorry to hear that Move, but it could have been MUCH worse. I'm sure you could be out $500 right now.

I partly agree with what jbach is saying. Doing certain things to your is going to attract certain sterotypes.

I know that if someone saw and heard my car they would think I was a young black guy, especially being in the south, but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I was gonna say the same thing (4)runnin'it. Lol.
