A 2001 4runner is a 3rd gen so you should ask in that forum, not the 03+ 4th gen forum. But since you are here I seriously recommend NOT installing HID's in your halogen headlight housings. They WILL glare that can lead to blinding other drivers on the road. Please don't be one of those douches.

Thanks for the heads up. I apologize for posting in the wrong forum, I just searched HID at the top and this was the first thread that came up.
 
You have to be careful with 55W HID kits - although they are technically "brighter" they produce a lot more glare so that extra light output is not very usable. Also, some places sell 55W HID kit with 35W bulbs which means you end up over driving the bulbs. This leads to decreased lifespan and premature failure. 55W kits also produce a lot more heat.

35W is the way to go. I would personally recommend a 4300k HID kit for the color temperature as this will be the most functional and give you the best light output. 4300k will be pure white and is the same color temperature used for factory HID applications.

Can't the same thing be said about 35W HIDs compared to the stock halogens :shrug:
 
55W HID kits have a bigger arc than a 35W HID kit which will will result in increased glare. Your stock headlights allow a slight amount of light to bleed upwards to illuminate overhead signs. There is no way of blocking that light bleed regardless of which HID kit you go with.

Hi I just want to ask you if 35w 4300k hid in 06 stock projector ok? will that produce too much glare on oncoming traffic?
 
Runner27: 35W 4300k HID Kit will be your best bet. I would suggest installing the kit prior to making the modification that Chaz is referring to. We have had many customers choose not to make the modification after they install the kit. If however you choose to go ahead and make the modification then it's quite easy to do.
