Will removing the two cats off my Cali spec 3rd Gen and replacing with a high flow cat cause my check engine light to stay on? I am not worried about emissions sense I live in Florida and we have no inspections.

you guys are psychic, I was just about to post this thread.

A year ago when i bought my 98 i had to put a cat on it to pass the emissions test... I passed somewhere in the half way range.... I was at midas muffler at the time and they put on a high flow generic POS.

SO for the last month my check engine light was on and my question is , how do i check to see if its my 02 or my high flow obd1 piece of crap cat they threw on?

Its been almost a full year with the high flow cat on before my light came on

I do have the full version of torque for my phone with the obd2 thingy.

The URD o2 sim works awesome, i have been using it for two years with no check engine light. I dont have high flow, but i dont have a cat period. I decided after getting it stolen why put it back on for people to steal again.

My understanding is that the URD is only to shut off the CEL,

I need something that will also pass an etest.

I have one of those ir temp sensors,, how do you check the cat ??

Well went to Zorro Muffler and got some answers.

My code thrown was the P0141 something.. which means rear 02 is pooched

If I had thrown a P0420 or 1420 or somethin along those lines it would have been my cat out of range.

So far so good. The rear 02 is changed out and no light so far.

The URD would do nada for cars with etests... just turn off a light bulb from my understanding.

I have read from some poeple that they saw a decrease in the performance of their Runner from running it with the check engine light. Ok, I guess my question is will the performance of my truck ultimitely suffer from installing the high flow cat if I don't install the URD also? Without the URD will the computer read something is off and wrongly adjust air/fuel causing negative effects. Oh yea and how hard is it to install the URD? I hope that was clear in what I was asking...
