OK, so my 1996 has had a high idle since I bought it about 5 years ago.
When I first start the engine, It idles about 900rpm, then slowly moves up to 1300-1500rpm once warm.
I removed the Idle Air Control valve and cleaned it up. It wasnt too bad. While it was off I also put 12v to it to check if it still functions, the valve still moved.
I reinstalled the valve and still had a high idle between 1300-1500rpm.
If I unplug the valve, my idle drops down to 750-800rpm and fuel consumption drops from .85gph to .67gph (OBD) But I get a check engine light, and when I let off the gas the rpms drop very quickly and cause a slightly jerky ride. This is very noticeable when using cruise control.
Today I replaced my Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, and I have no change.
I know the IAC is working somewhat, it just seems to be making bad choices. Am I down to replacing the IAC, or is there another option? I hate just throwing parts at a problem hoping something will work!
