High Mileage '01 Pricing

Honestly.....I would avoid that thing like the plague. You already have doubts so why buy something you're so unsure of? Sure, some folks buy vehicles that are far from perfect and need work, but most of the time we're able to see what needs repair. Even a blown engine, no biggie because we know the extent of the issue. Not so with heavy rust. Rust is cancer. It spreads and gets into places that you will only find out about later down the road. There's a reason so many auto dealerships in the north drive to auctions in the south to purchase inventory. Do yourself a favor and keep looking, the right one will come around. Don't rush it.

I agree with Elroy! Keep looking,since you live in ohio look out of town and take a road trip to the south,I live in pa dot also loves calcium/salt? Just kills a car over time, I recently bought a 99 limited with a bad motor to fix and sell from lower del,it's amazing the lack of rust compared to what we see up here with older cars.problem I have now is that wife put plates on 1999 to drive for a couple weeks and then it's months then I want to keep that truck,wtf Orwell keeps my tundra in the garage this winter) good luck finding one

I agree with elroy. I would pass on that one. Not worth it. I hate when that happens tho... when you see an ad for a vehicle that looks great, go to see it, and its a complete letdown... oh well.

Keep looking and you'll find one. The mileage doesnt seem bad but the rust makes it look like it was poorly cared for.

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to pass...I had sent an e-mail last night, they dropped the price 1k and then he sent me an e-mail saying he had more room to move but I don't think it is enough to maybe make it worth it.

My dad is about to sale an 01 sport 4x4. 214k miles good shape he bought for my sister for her first car but she ended up wanting an avalanche so he's selling the 4runner. We're in KY so not a bad drive. I think he's gonna ask around 6k. just throwingit out there. I suggested he keep it and we build a trail rig but that was a no go.

That's a good move. If you're going to buy one with high miles, I'd buy one from a rust-free area. It might cost a little more, but it will save you down the road.

I got e-mail yesterday saying that they would do $3500 OTD (the insane number I had thrown out the other day). ugh.

I would buy it for $3500! Just saying, its worth more than that, if you have to put $1,000 in repairs you are doing pretty good.

just looked at the carfax, it has a fairly decent report, and it had the timing belt done under 100k ago at the dealer, I would ask them to have there mechanic to do an inspection of what you are worried about then see what they say, but I would think its a good price, I have fixed rust like you see for like $40 in materials and a few hours.

The rust would be a turn off for me. Would drive me nuts every time i looked at it.
