"High Mileage" 5th Gen

I'm at about 55k. Only issue I've had that wasn't aftermarket part related was the front brakes. Dealer replaced with the shitty Toyota pads (not the same as OEM). Squeaked like crazy. I had them replace them and re-surface the rotors again, but use the real OEM pads. (on their dime, not mine). Otherwise it's been gas, tires, oil, and a few issues with aftermarket stuff.

Stumbled across this...are you saying that if you go up to a Toyota parts counter and ask for a set of pads, you may not get OEM? I did a search and only found threads about aftermarket pads.

141k on my 2011. Drives like a dream but it has the 4runner “whine”. Almost sounds like a Ford power steering pump.

They offer two brakpads. The OEM and the Toyota Complete Maintenance Care (TCMC)
That latter are lower priced and many (including me) consider lower quality.
Toyota Factory Replacement Brakes vs. TCMC Brakes
On the plus side, I’m told they come with all the shims. These have “TM” in the part number.

Any other 5th Gens break 100, 150, 200k this year or more? Always valued the info on this thread and wanted to add more data.

Any new members of the 100, 200, 300k club this year? Please leave your "high mileage" details if possible.

Yearly Check In on my 2015 @ 130k. A few minor issues outside of regular maintenance:
-Replaced sloppy sway bar end links and bushings all around
-Left Front Axel seal replaced after leak
-Front Toytec Aluma 2.5s started squeaking badly after 40k miles, bottom bushing failed. Was given a new set under warranty and trying to get the original set rebuilt and new bushings has been a PITA.

TIA for any contributions to the thread!

100k club recently 2010 trail kdss…around the 90k mark the only major service was the wheel bearings which seems to be the general lifespan of them which was covered under warranty. Other than that general preventative maintenance.

I’m currently at 271,600 with my 2010 limited. So far a set of tires is the most expensive thing I’ve had to get.
I’m on my 3rd battery, replaced one wheel bearing, one set of front brake calipers, front pads and rotors twice, rear once, spark plugs once and windshield once. Other than that, just normal fluids, etc.
Bought it used with 138,000 miles for $20,000 6 years ago and according to Blue Book, average condition (which I believe mine is better than that) even with those miles is worth as a trade in $14,000.
I just hope I haven’t jinxed myself by bragging about it, because for what vehicles are going for now, I do NOT want to have to get one in this market.

Last August I started looking at buying a 4Runner after owning two others in the past, a 2005 Sport and a 2011 SR5. I sold the 2011 because I needed a pickup truck, now that the truck is paid off I wanted another 4R, after looking at several used ones 2014 and newer the resale value was so high that my wife said why would you consider buying a five year old vehicle for close to $30K when you can can buy a new one for $12K more. So I ended up with a NEW TRD ORP in Nautical Blue with KDSS and love it with no regrets. I even paid it off in one year and still have a truck to boot.

I just want to thank the members of this site for their help and insight into the ins and outs of the 2 great 4Runners I’ve owned over the last 15 years. I decided to trade in my 2010 last week on a 2019 Highlander xle hybrid.
I know there will be some things I’ll miss, but I’m counting on the same Toyota reliability from this vehicle that I took for granted from the 4Runners. The Highlander’s updated safety equipment and 28mpg made a tough decision easier, but I will always consider my 4Runners as among the best vehicles I have ever owned.
Best of luck and thanks again to all on this forum.

170ish on mine now.

Got 170K on mine now.
Had to replace an Alternator at around 100K. (probably a fluke)
aside from that just basic Maintenance.
No Problems.

mc813, are you stealing my thunder...? jk

i was at first looking at a very used GX460, 90k or up...but got nervous about the air suspension stories....backed up to a 4th gen T4R...but wait, they dont pay me in cheese, why not go for a used 5th gen. that was the plan...and then, poof, there it was, a very lightly used, left over formal rental 2014 5th gen, fully serviced by the dealer with 20K on the clocks, and full factory warrenty. yes, i spent more than the 20K i was thinking of, but with the new-newer Runners costing upwards of 35K and more, to find this SR5 at only 28.5 was a steal. And knowing that it was almost brand new really makes me smile whenever i walk up to it :amen:

I dont know what you decided, but i wrote this 6yrs ago...and that same rig is up at the 135k mark, and my only 'fix' was to replace the front calipers, as each had a piston siezed within. Ive had the truck serviced fully again, per its schedule, and even had the fuel pump replaced per the recall by Toyota...and im getting more power and better gas mileage. Im sure this thing will get me to the 200k mile mark...

I love this thread. I just picked up a 2014 Trail Premium with 97K miles and a stack of maintenance records. It drives like new and I fully expect to get another 100K out of it easily. Will update with full impressions when I hit 100K.

I notice you had a 2019 ORP, and are getting a 2014. Was there something wrong with the 2019? Or maybe just taking advantage of the used car prices?

A little bit of all the above. The 2019 had a bad case of the 'driver side lean', I picked up a Tesla M3P as a daily driver, the current market meant I could get a great price for the 2019, so I sold it and subsequently found a great deal on an older higher mileage model with KDSS which sits and rides nice and level. :)

We’re considering getting a Model 3 as our daily driver as well. We’re keeping the 4R as long as possible.

My 2015 TRD PRO just hit a 100K a couple weeks ago. It’s my day off vehicle. My work commuter vehicle is a 2018 Camry SE Hybrid. Otherwise, my 4Runner would be around 200K. At 12-13mpgs with the 4Rrunner, I need the Camry. Especially with California’s gas prices.
