High mileage and afraid of supercharging?

Just relocated from Georgia to Idaho. Towed about 2500lbs, plus what was in the vehicle.
Route was Saint Mary’s GA, to Jackson MS, Jackson to Bossier City LA, Bossier City to Amarillo TX, Amarillo to Moab UT, Moab to Boise.

Installed the SC at 86000 miles, started the trip at 112000. More than justified the purchase. Avg MPG was 12.6. Held right around 2k RPMs give or take since I wasn’t going for a landspeed record. (Lots of ups and downs, especially in the NM/CO/UT/ID leg).

If you’re on the fence but have concerns about impacts due to age it makes perfect sense, but magnuson made a damn good product.

How long do the superchargers last? In my experience, you're lucky to get 100K miles out of a supercharger. If they grenade on you, all the metal shards are ingested into the engine, taking it out. I had this happen to me on a diesel boat engine. Not pretty and it forced a complete repower.

The Magnuson set up is only pushing 5-6psi, which isn’t much. The set up cost around $6k. As long as you’re not beating on the thing it should last quite awhile. Now they usually require a little more maintenance and sometimes a rebuild and oil change around 100k. I love how people bash on the supercharger set up on the 4Runner. To each his own. This is not a racing setup, it’s a 4800 lb brick on wheels. Magnuson makes a great product and as long as AFR numbers are good then people should get a long life out of it. A long life is different for everyone. I put mine on with 93k on the engine. I like to get 200k out of a vehicle before I buy another one. Sorry you had a bad experience with a boat engine.

Relocating to Boise myself in March from AL. Although I only lived in B'ham for about 16 mo and prior to that lived in salt lake for 3 years. Gotta say I hate moving the more I do it. See you there!!!
