I’m repairing my daughters 2000 4runner with 235,000 miles. Pulled the motor to fix the oil pan and rear main leak as well as valve covers since now we see those are leaking around the grommets. My question is what is the little bearing on the back of the block right above the rear main seal? Looks like oil is coming out of it. Also it hard to tell how long ago the timing belt was put on. It is a German belt I think it’s continential belt. I just want to do this once! Toyota 4Runner is no rust in great shape.

I have wondered about it as well... never seen one leaking
parts diagram lists it as 9025010113
STRAIGHT (FOR TRANSFER CASE); STRAIGHT(FOR CLUTCH HOUSING SET); STRAIGHT(FOR END PLATE); STRAIGHT(FOR TIMING GEAR COVER SET); STRAIGHT(FOR TRANSMISSION SET).

Its a plug for an oil passage. It shouldn't leak! They are pressed in at the factory after machining/cleaning and shouldn't ever need to be removed (unless you are having major block work done).

Maybe the oil around mine if from another leak causing it to puddle. I have elected to replace a lot of items now the motor is out. Replacing valve cover gaskets,grommets,pcv grommet/valve, half moons, plenum gaskets, timing belt and complete kit with water pump, rear main seal and oil pan gasket. Oil pan and rear main was leaking thus the reason for pulling the engine to do the work. I figured since it was out might as well do the timing kit. I have a job ahead of me.

[MENTION=80658]mforce[/MENTION] I would do the hoses o-rings and internal cleaning of oil cooler while engine is out, did'nt see on to do list.
