High mileage runners - what's your transmission life?

256 on the clock. Still shifts smooth as can be

98 Limited with 253k on original transmission, lifted and 33''s for 20k miles, never missed a beat since I've owned it, year and a half daily driven and weekend wheeled. Just bought a 99 with 264k for $800 and the original transmission, but its flex plate broke at 264k is why the previous owner sold it. I will probably just swap the transmission since I'm unsure of its condition. My 2002 4runner has 203k now, I bought it with 150k, original transmission and daily driven, previous two other 3rd gens I had also had over 200k and never had any issues with those transmissions except my first 98 4runners transmission cooler line broke at the radiator, and I immediately fixed it, no issues. Other 99 highlander I had, had 230k, I bought it with 170k, never any issues. Worst case if one does go on me, it's $900 transmission and labor locally with a 13 month warranty.

Is Bob still around? The last I heard, he was in the 750k mile range on his one owner, all original drivetrain '99.

Of course he also had it regularly maintained.

My 97' V6 3.4 Ltd has 373,000km on the original everything. Drives like a new one ! No squeaks, knocks or whines, nothing !

275,000.. At 250k the transmission blew and 265 alternator, besides that she's been a good girl

Currently at 252k on mine, smooth and quiet.

However, on my mom's at 310k, there is a terrible whine. It's been getting worse and worse over the past few months, yet no one can seem to figure out what it is without ripping the tranny apart. Most likely going to swap a used one in..

Severe service is 30k I'm pretty sure. With the age these things are at, I would be doing a drain/fill every year. It's cheap enough.

My MY 98 Limited has 176 K on it. No issues and it has never seen severe use.
I did change the fluid at 120K. They did the cleaning through the trans line hookup . Were they run fresh fluid in it until it is clean coming out the return line. I did not change the filter. I have zero leaks or drips from anything anywhere. It's been the best vehicle I've ever owned and the longest.
I am ready to sell though. After 16 years of driving it, I'm just tired .

I just picked up my 98 Limited, I have 190k on it, As soon as I purchased it I installed a new tranny cooler and did timing belt waterpump and everything else in that area. It runs nice and smooth.

Keep it in ECT always. Shifts as good as new.

Yep, I blew a head gasket at 143,000 & did all of the maintenance on time.
Every truck is different.

224,000 with original fluid, still doing fine. According to my mechanic Toyota says you don't ever NEED to change the fluid, however, I can't imagine changing on a regular basis would be a BAD thing. But now I'm scared cuz shes old and never had it done, people say it isn't good to change it if it hasn't been changed regularly throughout it's life. I'm gonna leave it for now... wish me luck haha

Changing it won't do anything. Just don't power flush it

385k with no slip and I slightly abuse it. External coolers and new fluid every 20k

199,000 here; very excited to see it roll over to 200k. I have had some odd failures such as the steering rack and brake booster but it's a very clean 99 Highlander that I can easily take on the trails or road trip. Even pulled a 3500# trailer from AZ to WA and back. Trans flush done by Right Toyota in Scottsdale about 10k ago. I bought mine with 136k so that flush is the only known to me tranny service besides my tranny cooler
