High RPMs on cold start

So, for a while now I've been experiencing high RPMs on cold starts in addition to a pretty steady shaking for a short time, about 30 seconds. After that time is up it goes back to pretty normal RPMs and no shaking. Toyota checked it out and suggested replacing the spark plugs, doing an EFI service, and an intake service; they also suggested this could be due to the fuel injectors and they may have to be replaced.

Now, I can replace the spark plugs, but EFI and intake service is a bit over my head; and I for sure can't do fuel injectors myself. So before I spend the money for Toyota to do it ~$500, I've read that simply cleaning the injectors may work/help. So I picked up some techron complete fuel service, but do you guys happen to have any options that may have been overlooked?

When you say "high" rpm's what do mean?

It's normal for them to rev at 1200 - 2000 depending on the engine and outside temp.

If you could could you give a range of rpm? I've had my truck range from 900-1700 rpm on a cold start. You could also try cleaning the throttle body (can cause high idle for a little bit while your ecu adjusts), seafoam, the injectors are fairly easy to get to on these trucks all you need to do is pull the intake manifolds.

I vote for cleaning the throttle body and IAC and buying a second bottle of Techtron (black bottle) and dumping both in your tank for 2 tank fulls.

And post what your high rpm is on a cold start.

I'm seeing RPMs as high as 2500 and then it drops down to about 1000.

If you can do the plugs and wires, you can do a DYI fuel injection service as well. From my experience, running some seafoam through the intake via vacuum line works as well as any fuel injection service offered by the dealer. I've done upwards of a couple hundred EFI/throttle body cleanings.. lots of different options, lots of similar results.

Replace the plugs and wires, clean the TB/IACV (when applicable), and grab a buddy to give the engine some gas while you're running seafoam through the engine. If none of this helps, there are many other reasons why your engine could be displaying a misfire/shake.

Does the rpm never drop below 1000?

To tight of throttle cable can cause a high idle also. Plugs, wires, cable adjustment, and TB cleaning will go a far way.
