high speed shimmy?

so i noticed today driveing on the freeway that aft 65 mph my steering wheel has a shimmy, i am doing an ome 3 inch lift in a few weeks what else should be on the list to replace?and how dangerious is it to drive like this?

never have had them balanced,i rotated the tires front to back last week....

that's probably the culprit then. Did it just start? Have them balanced and see if it goes away. It's like $20 per tire to balance them.

Mine does the same thing between 65 and 68 once I hit about 70 its smooth.

Yeah, it's possible one of your rear tires was out of balance and you are now feeling it since it's up front and vibrating through the steering rack. Balance should cost you less than $40 at a shop and it's the most likely culprit in my opinion.

ok could it wait? i plan in the next 4-8 monthe to get some new tires anyways...its not like its a violent shake wither its rather mild...

Also, depending on what tires you have, achieving a perfect balance with no vibration can be pretty difficult. I am mainly referring to large off-road/mud tires. My Duratracs vibrate a little bit at high speeds but I have just learned to live with it.

Jack up your front end and grab the wheel at 3-9 Oclock and shake it to see if there is play in your steering, 12-6 Oclock for your suspension. If everything feels tight either have your tires balanced, or rotate the front tires to the back one at a time to find culprit. If the steering wheel shake goes away and you're planning on getting new tires soonish anyways then it'll be fine in the back. If you found only one wheel was out of balance it would be super cheap to have just the one balanced though.

yea i got bored and jacked it up a bit ago, it feels fine....im prob gonna get new tires soon as mine are getting low on tread...

Fair enough, if everything felt fine then the shake shoud go away with the new tires...as long as they balance them well. It took 3 shops for me to get a perfect balance.

My runner had the high speed shimmy too. One of last times I took my runner in to get the wheels balanced I had them put the white letters out on my tires and change the balance weight to the stick on ones, instead of the ones that out on the outer edge of the wheel. Now I no longer have the shimmy.

it was my aligmnent....figured id get an aligment and bingo problem solved....
