it's a 85 with a marlin 5" lift

so from what i read it's point the steering input shaft toward the the steering wheel /as close as possible and slide the box as far forward as possible with a drop pitman arm ????????

You WILL need an IFS steering box for high steer, and the drop or flat pitman arm depends on how you mount the box for clearance with the leaf spring on compression, and with the frame when turning.
You should also plate your frame where you mount the box. Marlin, TG and SKY all make kits to do that.

You need to remove your current steering box and toss it.
You have to get an IFS steering box and install it on about the same spot.
Placing it forward is only needed if you've moved your entire axle forward, which you haven't.
Forget the dropped pitman arm, your hi steer kit comes with everything you need (except the IFS box).

Gracious I just wondered about exact mounting position of the box
what about moving the axle forward using the perches /one side has three holes and my drill can make the other side match ! the 33's rub the inner fenders and i need to take steps for 35's at least
looking at the many pics it seems to not be much science involved ,just keep the draglink from hitting and keep them as close together as possible
the mounting kit i will make to save a few bucks and i got a line on a 87 box
I just got tired of twisting it up and turning and the little voice in the back of my head saying "it's gonna snap aahhhhh!" so before it does, do the high steer

No,seems simple, but not good. You want the center of the axle bolted to center of perch. Offset will weaken things.
