Higher oil pressure with Toyota filter?

This isn't really something I'm too worried about, heck, its probably a good thing, but I just switched over to Toyota oil filter on my 94 3.0. At cold idle, my oil pressure used to sit a little over half. Now its at the 2/3 bar on the gauge. Hot idle, similar story, used to sit at about 1/4, now its a touch under the half mark. Previously I had been using K&N oil filters (old habit), until I went to the dealership to drool over the 2013 Tacomas and found out that I could get case deals on Toyota oil filters. The price was 5.60 a filter if I bought 12 and the 22re takes the same one, so naturally I couldn't resist.

Now, I'm wondering why the oil pressure increased so much. The Toyota filter seems to have a little less volume than the K&N, but I wouldn't think volume would really change it. Do you think it has something to do with flow resistance through the filter? And is that a bad thing? I'm just curious now.

Only thing I can think of is that there is less resistance with the Toyota filter, however I can't believe it makes a difference that registers on the gauge.

Thats sort of what I was thinking, but its pretty noticeable. Little less than a quarter higher on the gauge. Same oil as the day I bought it, 10w-30 Castrol GTX, unless Castrol did something to it between now and the last change, but thats doubtful.

I wonder how it would react with a more accurate oil pressure gauge, I know our gauges aren't the most sensitive

Great point. I figure its good enough because it showed something and rose when I accelerated To satisfy my curiosity, I might just get ahold of a good gauge, take some readings and run a K&N next change to compare.
