No first hand experience or know/heard of anything about it. I've seen in at the dealer's lot and I like it. It is priced similarly to a 4Runner, an AWD Limited Highlander with nav and the like will push $40k.

I drove the new Highlander. It had to be the most boring vehicle I've ever driven. The was NO feedback in the steering wheel...way too much "power" in the powersteering. There was no on-center feel on the expressway.
Also, I couldn't seem to get a comfortable position with the seat.
Some of the plastics seemed real cheap (instrument cluster, etc.).

I assume it will be on the reliable side. But I've driven minivans with more personality.

'08 Highlander

I test drove an '08 Highlander just before I bought my t4r. It was competent in most respects but had little in the way of any kind of personality. Not something any self respecting guy could fall in love with. That said, it may be just fine for your wife. One nice feature is the fact that you can get a back up camera without the need to go with the full nav system. God knows I am trying to find a way to retrofit my wife's '07 Rav4 with a backup camera without breaking the bank.

By the way, if your wife doesn't need the slightly larger size of the Highlander, have you tried a V6 Rav4? They are a hoot to drive and very comfortable and those who own them seem to wear a permanent smile on their faces. You can probably get a fully loaded one and save $$ over the Highlander. You can even retrofit it with the full nav, if your heart so desires.

My wife and I purchased a 08 highlander 4x4 limited 2 weeks ago. My wife loves it. It drives smooth and is quiet. It is bigger than the 07 highlander. I still love my pickup but the highlander is perfect for my wife. I got a great deal on it ... $500 over invoice. I ended up paying less than sticker price including tax and license. We did lots of research on this vehicle and knew the options we wanted and the invoice price and when we found it at a dealer 100 miles (we were just driving by and decided to stop) from home we offered him the price and he took it. Our local dealer could not get one with the options and color we wanted.
