I must agree with 1engineer on this one

If you want tot save gas or the planet 1( recycle ) or 2 (get a Yaris or something )

I like it when my wife drives her two mile commute in the yaris and saves the longevity of the 4runner.

As for saving the planet....... US guys will be lucky to live to the age of 70. 4,500,000,000 is the planets age. 1,000,000,000 years before the sun burns off all life. This earth is vast. It is unfortunate that people buy into climate change due to carbon emission.

I like coal energy plants. Why, because I don't want my collective community individually burning the stuff for energy.

We have a great amount of electricity available to US. I hope my wife's next commuter car has a battery that can be charged from any 110V outlet and a small petrol generator for creature comfort.

That way ^^ hopefully I can drive a useful, capable, BOF vehicle my next 20 years.

Me think it's a huge improvement over your 99. The 5th is much more comfortable (luxurious compared to the 99), significantly larger and heavier with 120 more horse and torque and yet has a better mpg rating. I'd say there's definite progress here.

Oh yeah, thats the reason I've been looking at them, i like the size and that i could actually stretch out my legs. Heavier is not an improvement, but with all the safety stuff it's a necessary evil.

We got back last night from our first trip in the T4R. Had a lot of room for all the gear / kids / dog. Plenty of room to spare. Wife was uber comfy and despite it being summer, put the heated seat through its paces.

The trip is 310 miles door to door. On the way up I got 22.7 mgp and on the way back I got 23.2.

I kept the cruise @ 72 both ways. Ran the AC pretty much the entire time. We hit some traffic on the way back yesterday evening, but not as bad as I expected with the holiday traffic returning to Chicago burbs.

All and all I am happy with those numbers.

I've been able to get 19MPG at speeds I may or may not have been doing 77-81mph through hills and moderate winds over 400km of driving. Worst I've seen is 17.5mpg but again many hills and quite windy conditions.

I'm confident on flat highways this will easily creep up to 20mpg again at 77-81mph. No doubt at 60mph this thing will sip gas. Also, I have full-time 4wd.

This is kinda a hard thing to say. I just drove from Houston to dallas with a hobie kayak on the roof at 75mph and averaged 21.5 mpg. On the return with the same kayak on top I drove 80 and got 19.5 mpg. My wife usually drives the 4runner and averages 18.5 combined which beats the hell out of my tundra.

I have been seeing between 22-26mpg on 90%+ highway trips, keeping my speed between 55 and 65mph.

My 2013 SR5 is 100% stock, and it has about 3300 miles on it. I have the tire pressure of the Duelers at 40psi, and just drive it normally.

I am pretty impressed with the mileage, considering it is a 4500lb BOF vehicle with a 4.0L V6, and a 5-speed traditional auto. I see mid sized sedans with smaller engines on Fuelly that get worse FE. Unfortunately with my daily commute, which is about 10% HWY, 40% City, 50% Suburbs/backroads, I am averaging around 18mpg, which is still not bad considering what the 4runner is.

My 2001 4runner averaged about 16mpg on the same commute, and it had a smaller engine and weighed about 1000lbs less!

I bought my 2013 SR5 in August. I have a little over 6,000 miles on it now. My commute to work is from south San Jose to Sunnyvale, which is about 25 miles in traffic.

City and Traffic: 16-18 mpg.
Freeway @ 70-75mph: 20-22mpg
Freeway at 60-65mph: up to 34mpg

I was amazed when I got the 32-34 mpg, and no I'm not lying. It was a day where there wasn't much traffic and I was doing about 60mph with low rpms (watch your ECO light and RPM gauge, it helps a ton). I got this consistently 3 days in a row and I reset my avg. mpg gauge when I went each direction to make sure it was accurate.

The 4runner is completely stock and was on it's first fill of oil.

Tire pressure effects this, weather, rpms, modifications, weight, etc. It's about 25-50F throughout the day right now, so my mpg is decreasing.

Edit: I'll be testing this further when I start adding modifications on. I will do it for each mod so I can see exactly what changes it is making.
