Here's something way out there that I've seen: 1999 Hilux Surf Sports Runner

Look at that bodykit. Unique flares and door moldings. The one I saw had an all plastic rear bumper. I think this might be a genius idea for those in the salt belt that want color matched bumpers, or just want to replace a rusty rear bumper. Cheaper to make, and if we've seen how plastic bumpers handle salt and minor bumps, more durable.

Also, I think these were all 2WD, but it appears to use the 4WD automatic gear selector, with some sort of coin holder insert that goes where the transfer case lever would go. Very similar to a US Tacoma Prerunner.

I think it's a little more sophisticated than that if they used an entirely different cluster. Simply popping in LED bulbs in an incandescent cluster can cause hot spots if not done right.

Just installed the mirrors on my 4Runner

Hey I just did this mod to my former UN 4Runner. Found the mirrors and rear reclining seat in the local junkyard. It took me about 3 days of work to install the mirrors and rear seat. Very nice addition.

Because they have a adjustment setting during installation that I observed only after I installed and wired them and saw that the left one doesn't retract correctly. But it would be another time to fix it. It involves removing them completely and taking them apart to readjust them to the correct position.

Yeah :/.. Well aware. It is what has been keeping me away from the swap for so long. My lights are dim enough to warrant replacement.

I was hoping that I could find the right p/ns for the bulbs to see if they're just incandescent.

I have a feeling it's far more involved than just bulbs. Think a $30 HID kit vs a proper projector retrofit. Now, what I do wonder is if the connectors behind the dash are the same. I looked around and the Lexus ES300 cluster is plug and play for an equivalent year Camry.
