Snow adventure!

Did a little snow wheeling today in Squamish, BC. I organized a decent run where about 15 trucks came out and we climbed until we hit snow and ice and started sliding. Good times though.

What is a Hilux surf? I don't get it haha. And also what is a Highlander?

Are both of those other terms for a 4runner? Or another type of Toyota vehicle?

Also, do any 3rd gen models come with "beapers" on their keys to unlock their 4runners from a distance, maybe also known as key-less entry? Or is that an aftermarket modification?

A Hilux Surf is a 4Runner, made in Japan like all 4Runners, but it was originally for the domestic market there (JDM). Meaning its the same as a North American 4Runner, but it is right hand drive and got a lot of different engine options. A highlander is like a mix between a 4Runner and Sequoia. Not totally clear on Highlanders.

And yea, my truck came with keyless entry from factory.

Finalized Light Setup

Finally finished my light set up! Now consists of:
- 2x PIAA ATP Ditch Lights
- 12" Dual Row Cree light bar
- 42" Dual Row "NoName" light bar <-- Installed today!!!

from 1999 to 2000, there was a 4Runner Highlander edition. This was an SR5 with some other options. Later on, this became the 4Runner Sport Edition. From late 2000 to present, Toyota produced the Highlander. This is NOT a 4Runner nor is it a SUV. It is a CUV, having a monocoque body without the ladder frame and no transfer case. In Japan and in Australia, this Highlander is called the Kluger.

I put in some crappy Canadian Tire lights. They fit perfectly, didnt have to do a think, though they are not very bright, ill say that.

Snow Run

Had a crazy snow run in Squamish, BC yesterday. Over 17 trucks showed up, 14 of the them Toyotas. had 2-3 feet of powder in some places! Here are some phenomenal pictures from my photographer and myself.

Proper Wiring! Blue Sea Fuse box and Relay setup

Recently I decided to finally clean up all my wiring. I used a Blue Sea 12 circuit Fuse Box (Part #5209 I believe) which is a marine, semi-waterproof accessory fuse box and as well set up some relays. Here are some photos from the process:

New FJ80 rear suspension set up!

I'm pretty excited. In the next week or two I will have a new (to me) rear suspension set up. For coils I am going with the FJ80 front coils. Sitting at:

19.5" Double Purple Green White 8 wrap
19" Double Purple Light blue White 7.75 wrap

Which will equal about 4-4.5" of lift without any weight in the rear end.

For shocks. I have just gone with a new set of the OEM LC black shocks.

I would have liked to get my hands on a set of Tokico Green absorbers, but they are not in stock anywhere and no one will bring them in.

Just need to grab some extended bump stops from the wrecker and extended break lines.


Any recommendations on a good place to get cheap but quality extended break lines?

April Update

It has been a while since I have posted, but there is some stuff to update on.

80 Series Land Cruiser coils have been installed. I went with the 7.75 and 8 wrap coils for my rear end and sit around 4" now in the back. Along with the coils, to do the new lift set up, I also had to install:

- LC Coils
- Tokico Black LC shocks
- Toytec panhard drop brakcet
- Sornonan Steel braided extended brake line
- Homemade parking brake bracket/ plate

I am still sorting out what I am going to do with bumpstops or limited straps as my driveshaft likes to tear up the gas tank skid plate, but I am very happy with the amount of flex/ articulation I have right now. Here are a few pics of the install and how it sits now:

I also made myself up a nice custom steel CB antenna mount on the rear right tail light but unfortunately do not have any new pictures of that currently.

Storage Drawers, Switch Panel, Wiring Update, Storage net, Transfer Case Swap

Its been a while and I had a few requests through Facebook to make an update. So here goes:

I have been dealing with a lot of issues with my 4 wheel drive since May. I have the 99 - 2000 transfer case out the Limited's. Its the VF3AM case with and actuator that allows for selectable 4x4. Funny enough there isnt that many of them around and I am currently waiting for the 3rd on as the actuator is gone on my other 2 (Its not a replaceable part). So while I have been waiting, I went ahead and did lots of "small" mods and got creative. More just stuff to enjoy camping more.

Storage Drawers:

Switch Panel: Aluminium panel for 6 rockers from OTRATTW

Updated the Wiring for all the accessories with plug and play relays that are a lot more secure and waterproof. Each accessory has its own complete circuit.

Roof Storage Net - Can load it up pretty well and doesn't block my view at all.

Tranfer Case Swap - This case also ended up having an issue with its Actuator which I could only find out afterrrr I put it in...

New Double DIN Pyle Navigation unit that tilts (hard to see in picture).

Also did some other small things like:
- Removed rear portion of flares and flaps for more travel
- Added led trip lights on hatch for lighting above drawers
- Made a second mount for a second CB antenna that attaches to my CBI Ditch bracket.

Truck still has other issues right now.
- A/C lines are busted somewhere and I can't figure out where.
- Steering rack is leaking and since its RHD. not a lot I can do unless I want to spend money to import one.
- Virtually none of the transfer cases I need exist in the North West so its just a waiting game for some other poor sucker to wreck.
- Been waiting to upgrade the tires till the 4wd is fixed but not so sure about waiting anymore as this is taking a lot longer than I expected.

- I am going to be building some sliders soon with a friend and I am beginning to try and source a new full rear with an e-locker which I am pretty excited about.

Thanks a lot man! So much more to come. Doing my best to find one of these stupid transfer cases that are rare it seems. I have roof basket extension, awning, 9 wrap LC coils with extended billys and new tires basically waiting to be put on ahah. Also on board air and dual battery.
