Hit a deer

Got off work about 2am and hit a deer on the interstate about 75mph. My headlight, bumper, sidemarker, fender flare, driver fender, driver door, and left passenger door were either dented or destroyed.

I have to fix the driverside headlight ASAP since I drive home late every night. Are the certifit headlights of good quaility?

I'll get some pics in the morning. My driver door barely opens but really I got lucky that not more things were damaged. I had to take my front bumper off because it was rubbing so bad but there is still some hardcore rubbing trying to make a right turn. My fender must be really bent in....:ybrick:

After looking this morning I see how lucky I am that it wasn't worse.

Sorry to hear about the deer. Wow 75mph. There are many vehicles that would just be totaled after that. I was just talking to a friend the other night about 4runners and deer. He has 2 3rd gens and has owned several. His daughter drives his old 99 and hit a deer the other night. Had to tape the front bumper on to get it home in one piece. He said that makes 7 deer that particular 4runner has "killed" during its life and lived to tell about. Another reason i am glad my daughter is now behind the wheel of one.

At least everyone was in a vehicle when they hit the deer. My parents were on their Harley when they hit one. My dad locked the brakes just enough to where he only hit the deer in the shoulder with his handlebars! Luckily, and somehow, they were ok other than minor injuries. It did total the bike though...

NEVER thought about deer and a bike - I've hit more than my share during my driving "career" and know first-hand how much damage can be caused, but was always in a truck or car when it happened. Glad your parents were ok - could have been very nasty.

I've hit one on a bike before. About 9 at night. Was doing about 40 mph. Probably would've totaled the bike, but I paid out of pocket. Crushed the front and right side, knee dented the tank and a few other small things were damaged. It's not something I want to do again anytime soon..knocked me from my lane to the other lane, thankfully nobody was coming or I would've been a hood ornament. The forward momentum kept the bike up, thankfully.

I'm the guy sitting on the wall in the opening shot (blue/black leathers). I was not the one who hit the deer. It was pretty gross, and the guy with the camera on his bike had to dispatch the paralyzed deer in the ditch. Otherwise, a beautiful day for a ride!

Ya it was pretty crazy...riding around dusk, going about 60mph, when it ran right across in front of them. He locked the barkes, smacked the front, and still managed to lay it down in the grass to the side of the road. Knocked him out and threw my mom about 10 feet. He broke his hand and she broke her collar bone...and both had some scratches. The bike couldn't have been fixed at all...

Glad to hear that you are ok and your 4runner is still limping along. I think all this means is that you need to get a bumper with some tubing on the top. That way 75mph is no longer cruising speed its RAMMING SPEED!

They are not as good as OEM, but I hear they are better than most aftermarket. They are made by Depo, as are most Certifit lighting parts. I can guarantee you that Eagle Eye absolutely sucks as far as beam pattern goes...fit and build is fine.

I had a deer hit me (yes, she went into driver door during the rut at full speed, presumably trying to escape a buck) and it ran $3500--for one door, a rear bumper side and some dent pulling. 4Runner was brand new at the time, too. Good luck.

Same story with my parents in ~1982. Canadian deer jumped out from a ditch and tried to go between the front wheel and frame. Everyone but the deer was ok. Some minor bike surgery was required to get going again.

last october I hit a deer going 75 as well. $4k in damage to the front of my truck. luckily I hit it square across the front. What pissed me off was that my shrockworks came in a week later. I wonder what the outcome would have been had that been on there at the time

I smoked a deer doing about the same (120 km/h) and ended up with over 13K worth of damage on my Tundra.

Thanks guys for the responses. I don't feel so bad after hearing how much worse it could have been. My damage doesn't look that bad considering what some of you guys experienced.

Thanks, I've been gathering materials to build a bumper. Too late for this deer but I'll be ready for the next.

That happened to my dad when I was riding with him. Nothing he could do, deer just ran right into the passenger door where I was sitting. Didn't kill the deer, only wounded it really bad so my dad got out and killed it with his pistol.

I only have liability so this fix is all coming out of pocket :ybrick:

That was the first thing that popped in my head after fixing the truck in a western sizzlin parking lot so I could drive it home. I remembered seeing a guy on ttora selling tacoma fenders so I looked it back up last night only to realize it was the flared fiberglass fenders....oh well.

hey just an FYI, the taco parts are cheaper than the 4runner parts, just throwing that out there. i havent seen pics yet but im gonna guess that your gonna have to tear all that stuff off anyways. i wouldnt be surprised if your core support was damaged a little too. so just something to think about

Glad you're ok. Deers can definitely do a lot of damage.
