Hitch Cover Fitting

So far I have bought 2 different Hitch covers, one from ebay and one from autoanything.com but both ended up not fitting my 2" reciever on my SR5.

The one from ebay was a little too big and will not fit into the reciever.
So I bought the Lund Hitch Cover that folds down into a step and that one the holes do not lineup correctly. The hole on the hitch cover is too far back and the one on the SR5 is too forward so when I put it on and lock it in with the pin it just kind of dangles there.

Anyone else having this problem.
Any suggestions?

Hitch Size Issue

Just received a UWS aluminum cargo carrier (2" tongue) for my 2011 Ltd. It will not fit in receiver - however both Reese and Draw Tite 2" tongues fit in receiver. Supplier contacted UWS and will replace the cargo carrier - Since you are having a problem with your receiver, my guess is that the replacement may not fit - perhaps the 4Runner 2" hitch is slightly undersized, accepting some 2" tongues but not all.

Have you guys taken a look into the receiver to check for welding slag or other junk that could be blocking anything from seating all the way?

The SAE sets the standards for things like this, but its $50 bucks to download the spec. SAE Receiver Spec

The easiest would be to take measurments to compare your receiver to another vehicle where the hitch works properly. If you can show Toyota that their part is not built to SAE spec I would imagine it would be a workmanship or defect issue covered under warranty.

I bought a 2" Reese at Wal*Mart for $5. Not a true "rig" mod, but it works just fine. By the way, I went for a cheap one because I KNOW someone will steal a nice one.

The 2 top corners on the tongue of the aluminum cargo carrier appear to be the problem areas so rather then return the carrier I'll break out the file and "fine tune" the aluminum tongue so it will fit. Suggest those of you who plan on purchasing a trailer hitch mounted accessory check to see if it will fit in the Toyota receiver before you purchase it.

Just got a new UWS carrier, its a tight fit but it does work, they have ground off the top corners slightly to ensure it does fit the hitch..they must have listened! Nice carrier though, heavy duty...
