Hitch Installed!

Draw-Tite Hitch and Shackle w/ Bracket Installed

Finally got the hitch installed at Truck, Trailer, and Hitch here in Kansas City.

Hitch Receiver:
Draw-Tite Class III - $219 + $35 Installation
Model # 75155

Shackle:
Bulldog Winch - $30 (I installed this one all by myself)
Model # 20037
9500 LB Working Load Limit (Or as Limited by Hitch Capacity)

I like that the Hitch Receiver came with a bracket to relocate the light plug.

Looks good! What does the weight rating sticker on the hitch say? Your hitch looks identical to my Hidden Hitch.

What are the factory weight limits on a reciever hitch installed on V8 4x4? I know it's rated for 7k, I wonder if the hitch is rated for that?
Good looking hitch there. I just bought a 10k lb insert for mine w/ a 8k interchangeable ball system. Real happy w/ it so far!

Thanks! That's the same as I have. Every now and then someone with a V6 wants to upgrade to this hitch for a motorcycle carrier or to use spring-bars. The OE V6 hitch is rated for less.

I believe it's identical to FireEngineers (and mine).

What are spring-bars?
 
Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket hitches that hide behind the bumper? I'm looking for one that after it is installed, the hitch receiver sticks out the center bumper 'bump' (if you know what I mean).

I believe the toyota hitch hides a little up behind the bumper, but you (obviously) will have to cut or replace your bumper. I think toyota charges like 600-700 bucks for parts + labor. But to answer your actual question, I do not know of any aftermarket ones designed to hide, even Hidden Hitch, haha.

The extra cost was not worth it to me. And I believe CJ3Flyr mentioned the towing capacity on the Toyota hitch is less than what we have installed.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I've been looking at the Curt hitches, like this one, but I didn't know how low they hung. It doesn't need to be completely hidden, but I've just noticed that there are a lot that are completely exposed, and maybe it's just me, but I don't like how they look. Besides,.. I don't want to risk dragging my tail when I get up my driveway. (I have a steep departure angle from the street to my driveway, and my rig is at stock height.)
 
Only the OEM V6 hitch mounts slightly higher (when measuring off the ground). But it's not in the center of the bumper cover.

All the aftermarket hitches are of a similar tubular style.
 
Looks good, but a suggestion....

I would get some waterproof tape and seal the cable sleeve and back side of the wire harness plug. Where it is located, which is the same as mine, will allow moisture to be sprayed on it everytime it is wet. I can see evidence of that in your pics. Barely one year after I installed my new hitch and relocated the harness plug, I started having light problems with my trailers. When I took apart the plug assy., I found moisture had found its way into the back of the harness and caused corrosion damage. I had to rewire the harness to correct the problem.

IIRC, the Towing Capacity also varies depending on whether or not the V8 4Runner is 2WD (where available) or 4WD.

I used some self sealing electrical tape I have, it works well, but it will deteriorate over time, so I intend to inspect and replace it when needed. You might want to try a marine supply store to see if they have anything that will work.
