I was stopped headed home from an amusement park when a kid and his brother rear ended me. All in all, his car looks about totaled and the runner lived to see another day. The radiator in that Nissan was absolutely destroyed, smoke everywhere originally. Sorry for potato quality, actually filmed on an iPhone 7 but with the Snapchat app lol
Side note: I'm now in the market for a rear bumper, and a front one to go along with it... any suggestions??

nice man.

i have a hitch on there as well and appreciate that it kind of serves as a rear bumper without an aftermarket rear bumper.

glad you made it out ok. I leave mine on for the same exact reason and for when I street park. I almost took it off when I got it because it was all rusted and flaking chunks. I've since just cleaned it up and hit it with some flat black plastidip.
 
I hate the look but it is nice to have that hefty piece of metal back there. Mines been used many times on the trials as a skid. Glad you're ok!

So many bumper companies out there. You'll have to see what style, options, and price you're willing to pay. I talked to the guys at CBI at the Overland Expo West and they were great. Bought the ditch light brackets and love the build quality.
 
I'm assuming you're in Richmond VA....if that's right, I have my old bumper sitting in the garage waiting to go to the scrap yard. I bedlined it black a while back. Anyways, I'm down in Hampton, let me know.

Here's my new rear bumper, just got delivered, by 4x4 Innovations, got the front bumper a while ago I love it, coated it in Montsaliner , color "pyroplastic". Beefy and fits perfect with the body lines. Gotta get the narly bumpers for all those texters out there. :gun5:

I got rear ended in a Steak 'n Shake drive through last year, didn't have a hitch in, just the hitch receiver. Not a scratch to the element (aside from a few on the hitch receiver). Pushed me 6 feet forward and the brand new Honda Odyssey slid under the truck. It needed at least a new bumper, hood, radiator, and possibly jacked up the core support. I was actually disappointed that the bumper wasn't messed up. I would have loved to cash in the insurance check on one to match my front AOR Bumper.

People are crazy out there. Gotta be careful for sure, especially with almost all of our trucks being worth a lot more to us than the insurance companies will give us for them.
 
The receiver hitch in that's on my t4r was in my wife's sequoia before we sold it. It got hit 5 times between her two sequoias. Saved our car many times.
 
i keep a trailer hitch in my reciever for those light bumps you get in drivethrus or parking lots... case in point, got rear ended a few weeks ago in a drive thru lane. lady was driving a brand new infiniti suv, on the phone, and rear ended me. got out and looked, she had a nice hole in her brand new bumper, my car wasnt even touched. she was pretty pissed when i refused to give her my insurance.
 
My hitch saved my truck last month too, but the shop that fixed my truck did a amazing job with the body work, but putting the rear windows back together correctly they failed hard at.
 
It's the mirrored situation that happened to me about year ago. 2014 FW Jetta rear ended me and got speared by my hitch receiver. His radiator, hood, fenders, grille... All gone.

I had to replace my rear bumper.
 
Not yet (check the links I sent from the company I bought from - 4x4 Innovations example pic), I'm driving around without a rear bumper now, I just finished painting it yesterday. 2 spray bombs of Rustoleum primer, 6 spray bombs of satin black Rustoleum mainly for backside, 1 quart of Monstaliner "pyroplastic". I love Monstaliner cause it doesn't chip and scratch like whimpy paint does.. I'm gonna let the paint cure for a couple weeks, also I'm painting the frame and underbelly with chassis saver. If you get one of these bumpers, make a stand to paint it. They are so heavy you'll fight with it to get all areas covered without a stand or hang by wire. The front bumper I fought with, the rear I built a stand that puts the trailer hitch vertical, and can be easily flipped.

I just got my 2000 limited two weeks ago and have been going like crazy on it. I need to start a build thread, have pictures of the few things I've done thus far, but I need a hitch. Mainly for a bike rack, but I also like the protection. Looking at the spare I can't see how I am going to fit a hitch under there, but I imagine there may be some pendulum opportunity on the spare if I lower it and push it forward a little. Glad to hear yours survived. These things are too nice to lose to wrecks.

Should be more than enough room to fit a hitch, unless you have something other than ~ stock size tires as your spare. I put a Curt hitch on mine when I first bought it and it fit just fine, my co-worker put a no-name hitch on his and didn't have any issues.

I figured as much, but man does that tire hang out there. A lot different than my Tacoma.
