3rd Gen 4runner Comparable Sales /Buyers

Been some dark days since hitting an elk. Insirance has totalled it. Bought my '98 new and i miss it. Im thinking im going to buy it back fr insurance and rebuild.

I need some help. I need some comparable sales to counter the insurance offer. If any of you could tell me what you paid (message me privately if youre more comfortable that way. I understand.)

Mine:
SR5. One owner. bought at camelback toyota in '98. they put the after market leather in prior to delivery along w some apparently hard to find wheel well fenders/trim. (at that time, you couldnt buy a limited w a manual transmission. i wanted leather). paid $33k OTD. BEST truck i will ever own:

5spd manual
new front locking differential (electronic)
newly geared elocker for the rear (zuk did it)
1" body lift
ALL breathers extended including the transmission
new KO2 tires
Autotech 240a alternator (30k mi)

99 tall front springs (oem bought new a few yrs ago)
all fluids recently replaced

all steering/suspension bushings replaced (rack, control arms, sway bars, etc)
kilmat soundproofing throughout cab (not rear cargo)
spark plugs replaced (20k mi)
full timing belt job including drive belts, water pump, 170° thermostat, harmonic balancer/bolt, idler roller, tensioner roller, crank/cam seals, hydraulic tensioner...all oem (55k mi)
recent lower ball joints replaced
rear axle seals replaced
cam shaft seals ((30k mi)
front diff arm bushings replaced
ac recharged last yr
power steering pump oem (40k mi)
wheel locks
o2 sensors oem
fuel injectors oem (50k mi)
throttle body oem (50k mi)
oem tundra brake upgrade (calipers/rotors)
2awg wiring to rear bumper w Anderson plug

....and so much more due to the fine help of these forums and quite a few of you over the 26yrs ive owned it.

Can any of you share what you paid for your 3rd gens?

This is a bummer to read - I fear this myself. I was lucky to get my current runner at an outlying price in a time of lower prices so I won't include mine.

I think the most important thing would be to(and not to be dismissive) remove the pricing from the parts you have installed and comp this thing relative to a vehicle with similar mileage in tremendous condition using whatever you can.

Ask yourself:
What does the vehicle that runs/drives passes whatever inspections you have in standard ready-for-the-road condition first. Compare that to regional sales as well and get a good idea based on mileage. Find an average and assume a standard deviation of those sales - it will probably be somewhere within that 70 percent of most vehicles in awesome condition.

Figure and assume that your individual modifications have somewhat 'limited' appeal to a lot of people. While in this marketplace a lot of people will inherently mod any vehicle, but from an insurance perspective unless insured for that equipment, they may not offer anything different.

That said, the configuration you have in non modded condition pays a premium. Knowing a lot of us here are 'we know what its worth' if you're dealing with insurance, you may want to find someone with access to an auction to see what something like Manheim(for my area anyway) would pay at an auction and perhaps consider an offer for that.

What information are you ultimately looking to get from the folks here as far as comps, and what might your intentions with that information be on your approach to insurance?

My first suggestion would be to see what an auction pays for it in this current totaled condition and run with that.

If my 98 gets totaled....I'm just going to go find me a dead FJ80 to build
I would be sad, yes, but I always keep moving forward....and I see a white 80 in my future

I paid $16k in 2019 for mine because:
It had under 160k mi on it.
1 prior owner w/ complete carfax history.
It 056 white w/ no clearcoat (why people drive dark colored vehicles in the southwest boggles my mind).
A clutch.
Factory rear locker.
Nov98 mfr so it had the 99 tall springs.
And EVERYTHING works, to this day.

And everyone said I overpaid....best truck I ever owned. Worth every penny.
