Yeah, I’ve got that same set up too. It works awesome for recovery, but I also needed something to work better as a step to access the rear-entry packasport box on the roof.

Mine arrived today, so I answered my own fitment questions on the stock tire size (265) spare. When I put the BA Backbone in the receiver the first time, it would not go in all the way to allow use of the furthest-in hole before it hit the spare tire. However, if you lower the spare a bit it can easily swing forward far enough to allow the stinger to be inserted into the receiver all the way to the furthest hole. You then just snug the spare back up tight. I don’t know if there is room to do that with 285s, but it works with the 265s and gets the step much closer to the bumper.

I’d take some pictures but it is dark out now and the mosquitoes were ruining my fun anyway.

It does wobble a bit with my cheapo Harbor Freight locking hitch pin holding it. What have you guys used to snug it up? I was thinking of just wrapping the stinger part in an old bike inner tube to keep it from rattling and making noise at least. I imagine there is something out there I can spend yet more $ on to make it more secure:shrug:

Backbone

Here are a few shots of the Backbone at its furthest in position. I think the bike inner tube will do the trick for now in stabilizing and keeping it from rattling. It is a nicely designed and finished piece of gear, and it seems like it will work well as a step.

I really want one of these but someone told me that in an accident it will cause more damage to my own vehicle. I take it thats not correct?

And how do you keep this from getting stolen? Are there any locks I can buy?

No more than any of the allstar-must-have aftermarket front or rear bumpers will cause. Hitch pin locks have been around for just about forever.
