Been a while since any update here on the build. Finally finished unpacking from the move and had a chance to make sure the truck fits in the new garage. And yes it does!!



Next project is rigging up a hoist system for removing/installing the roof. rack.

Right? gotta have the priorities straight! My fiance was chastising me (jokingly) that I have the garage and tools all organized but half my clothes are still in the moving boxes.

if you're just looking for something simple. I just used 4 eye bolts through the roof trusses, and two ratchet straps to remove the cap/shell from my truck. Works well and not overly complicated.

black housing job looks great :bigok: I need to do that on my wife's T4R one of these days. I finally got around to doing my tundra a few weeks ago.

Thanks! I can't remember the price but I ordered it from summit racing. They had the best price at the time but I do recall it taking a few weeks to arrive.

Appreciate the idea! I was thinking along those same lines. I have a few spare pulleys laying around from some hoists I made for my kayaks so hopefully it will come together pretty easy. Ratchet strap is a good call!

Thanks HokieRunner. Back when I had a 1st Gen T4R in used some pulleys , 2x4's and a boat crank to raise and lower my shell. Very simple and yet very affective.

Boat crank would work great! I'm going to see how the pulley blocks I got fare but if I find myself pulling the rack often I'll have to look into a more permanent set up.

Thanks! Still plenty left to do but the sound deadening/stereo is probably still my favorite project to date. Pain in the a$$ but so nice and quiet now. Except for the music haha

Sorry to hijack this thread, saw a bunch of DC area people on it though. I live in Herndon and just lifted my truck. Looking for some places in the near vicinity to do some offroading now and in the future. Do you guys have any suggestions or links? I've done some looking and don't see anything all that close.

Thanks! It's been a fun project so far. I just moved out to Gainesville from herndon. And you're right that there isn't a lot that's close. There's red cloud offroad park that's down 95 maybe an hour drive. Private owned park with lots of trails of varying difficulty. Then there are some trails out in Jefferson national forest and Rausch creek up in PA.

I was actually talking with a guy last spring who said his friend was in the middle of building an offroad park out in winchester. Not sure if it's done yet but he said it would be cheaper than red cloud and with more varying terrain. So I'm curious to see how that came out.

Hey man, I am about to do a huge maintenance project as part of gearing up for a big west trip this summer. I'm going to be putting in a dual battery set up, fuse and relay box, and plenty of lights and switches to match. I was wondering if you would be able to take some time to help me make sure I order everything I'll need. I'm no wiring amateur but I've never taken on something of this magnitude and your organization and cleanliness a huge sellers for me. Would you be able to help me out?

If you guys end up getting together I would love to be a fly on the wall and try to absorb some of this electrical knowledge...In the middle of ordering a few light bars and trying to plan for some other electrical needs down the road too.
Could easily be coerced into bringing a sixer out and talking some shop.

I'd definitely be willing to help out. If you know your electrical it's really just a lot of planning and the organization is what takes the most time. Making things look nice and tidy is a PITA!

What say ya to maybe this coming weekend before we hit up Red Cloud the following weekend? If not the weekend might be able to swing a weekday deal.
