Holes in my frame predicament

Factory Oak Leather was an option on SR5's for a few years.

My '97 is an SR5, V6, 5-speed, E-locker, Oak Leather, moonroof, 16" wheels, etc. Basically it's just like a Limited of the same year, except it's a manual transmission, and it didn't have (nor did I want) the Limited running boards.

Lmao I did look at it but not close enough to the interior i guess! I can't wait to see it in person!!

I never did like the limiteds huge mother f'ing flares or running boards either! :D but what can ya do lol.

I have a buddy down here at Platteville though that has one of the only limited's with manual trans.

Just for the record, 3rd gen Limited's never came with a manual transmission. So either someone stuck 'Limited' badges on an SR5, or swapped a manual trans. into a Limited.

Haha i know they didn't come with manual transmissions. He swapped it in the install was really clean..... until he hit a tree with the truck now it is a little rough lol.
 
Bummer. That is rusty, and in a somewhat odd spot. By no means am I an expert, but I have never seen one rust that badly up front yet still be fairly clean out back.

Just one thing to consider when you are shopping - you could buy a Highlander/Sport with or without the rear diff lock and the 5-speed. There were two different Highlander/Sport package codes, one with and one without. Just a guesstimate, but it seems like maybe 50% of 5-speed Highlander/Sports had the locker.

Just saw this thread today. Thanks for giving me the heads up on the frame condition when I contacted you via Craigslist. There is a 98' SR5 in Ankeny that has a stick with the E locker. I looked at it a week or so ago. It was too cold and dark to check out the frame. He wants $2600 so it might be worth looking into for parts?

Let me know when your heading back to Ames(if you haven't already) and we can meet up if you want and it works out.

I have a guy coming Saturday to buy my 4runner he says. That one in ankeny worried me since it's a prior salvage. It could have underlying frame damage or other unfortunate issues.

I looked at it too, even drove it. It actually drove better than I was expecting. He never told me about the salvage title but he did say he would take $2,200. If a guy could get it for 2k or less and was looking for something to play around with and didn't mind getting the maintenance up to date it wouldn't be too bad of a deal assuming the frame isn't horrible. To make it "nice" would require quite a bit more effort. Rockers, fresh paint, bumpers, seats or seat covers, thorough detailing job, probably carpet removal for cleaning and a few misc. trim pieces.

If I was buying new in 1998 it is probably exactly what I would have ordered, even the color. Leather, fogs (which aren't terrible common in the 96-98 era), 5 speed, black flares, V6, sunroof and E-Locker sums it up.

Yep we will see. He said he doesn't care about the frame rust, only the body. It's apparently all he has ever wanted or something.

Thats funny. Maybe your the one that told him you wanted to make it into a offroader? It would have to be under 2K for me to consider buying it. He did seem to have maintenance up today. Although I didn't like that the check engine light was on due to an O2 sensor and that it pulled to the right.
 
Sold the 4runner today!

Then literally 2 minutes later I picked a 2001 Tacoma with a brand new replacement frame.

AND YOU GOT TO GO TO CULVERS ON TOP OF IT!!!! Im jealous the Culvers in platteville burnt down about a month ago :(
 
I love culvers fries! And the butter burger is so buttery and good. I wish there was a white castle around here though!
