Holy sinkhole!!

So I was taking the runner on some back roads today and I went through what I thought was a smallish not crazy deep as hell mud puddle WRONG!! it ended up being a four foot deep hole full of water.... mud and water all the way up to the headlights on the one side as soon as I hit it I thought uh oh this isn't good..... I was pretty sure I was stuck you know up to the headlights but apparently not I put it in 4-wheel drive and drove out!!!! With only minimal effort..... four people on four wheelers rolled up while I was sitting there testing the depth (after i was in it....)their minds were absolutely blown when I drove that thing out of there..... they were trying to tell me I was going to need a tractor or a tow truck to get out but after I got out they were cheering and clapping and smiling and so was I ear to ear.... and thats stone cold stock with bald terrible road tires that I hate! I tell you when I get a good set of tires on that it's going to be unstoppable....

Had this been a Chevy or worse ford I can say with absolute certainty that I would have needed a tractor to get out I used to work for a farm and we had the big three as work trucks I got those suckers stuck more than enough times to know what they're capable of there would have been no chance in all of hell that they would have got out....

The amount I love my 4Runner is staggering!!!! Sometimes I catch a glimpse of it and I have to stop and weep because of its excellence!!!! :bounce::bounce::rockon::rockon:

The downside is now my doors are completely and totally full of water underneath my hood is full of mud and the carpet is soggy with chunky mud on passenger side.....

Moral of the story is if it looks like a small normal mud puddle in the road don't fall for it get out and check because I didn't I'm lucky I didn't roll it....

I don't know why the photo is turned sideways and that was only the very Edge of the hole I had to drive in further to end up getting back out the further I drove in the deeper it got I wish I would have been thinking I would have had my wife get a video the random people got one maybe I'll end up onYouTube....

Lucky your passenger floorboard got wet, not the driver. Your ecu is under there and will get fried if you get water in there. Plenty of horror stories on this forum about it.

Yeah most definitely to be honest I didn't know that's where it was located until you just told me but yeah I just drove 300 miles since I got stuck in that hole yesterday it kind of smells like stinky old swamp water but as far as running it's running just fine and driving nice so I don't think I caused any damage which is good.... like I say I didn't necessarily hit that mud hole on purpose I mean I was driving down the road and the Center of the road was gone but the edges of the road were still level with the rest of the road so it just looked like a mud puddle until I fell into it.

Spent all day today trying to get all that mud out of all of my crevices.

I would pull the entire interior. Steam clean the carpet with a commercial steam cleaner, not a $100 cheap unit. Clean and inspect everything. Now would be a good time, not later. Using a box fan or two will speed up the drying process after steam cleaning. Pulling the interior allows you to inspect for any secondary damage.

The inside of the truck didn't get to bad just right along the door which is good I imagine pulling them carpets out and getting them back in as good as they are Factory would be a real pain in my ass. The inside of the door itself is where all the water was sitting I was going to pull the panel off I didn't get around to it yet. Just blasted the hose inside the weep holes until it ran clean.

Let's say something like that happened and I destroyed my Runner is that a claimable occurrence considering it was in the middle of the road?

Actually, the moral of the story is always check the depth of the water before you drive through it...

having said that, glad your 4R got you out...

side note, you might want to get some drying fans and a couple of boxes of damp rid..pulling the carpet would be best, otherwise the inside it going to get pretty funky...good luck.

I see videos of 4runners going through water up to the headlights. Is the ecu in that location for all generations? How did they stop their doors from leaking?

i happen to wheel trails that get some deep boglike puddles...extended my diff breather and have my fender liners but i would opt for a snorkel when they are released specific for this truck. glad you got out of there!

Ill have to find one when i do he can hit all the holes first and depending how horrific that looks maybe ill do it too....

I didnt even think about the diff breather where is that located? Ill bet its on the diff... LOL Im sure if i looked i could find it....
