Homelink Looses Programming

I have just bought a new 08 Sport Edition with Homelink and recently added a Homelink to my 04 SR5 which I'm giving to my daughter. Strange thing happened.....Both Homelink units in each car lost their programming for both garage doors. I reprogrammed in both cars thinking it was some sort of fluke. Two days later, the same thing has happened again.

I thought it might be something to do with power loss to the door garage door openers . BUT, my 2001 Suburban has Homelink too and has never lost its programming. And the 3rd button is programmed to open a third door at my in laws house. That button did not loose programming. I don

Did you follow the rolling-code programming instructions after the initial programming? If not, you may not have completed the programming. Just a thought.

Homelink Problems

I managed to get in touch with the company that owns the Homelink technology,General Signal I think as well as a tech at the dealership. They indicated that the opener is set to accept signals from a finite number of transmitters for security reasons. With three cars of my own, plus three hand held openers, the system was apparently kicking out the "newest" transmitters when a new one was added.

This is apparently a built in security feature by the opener maufacturer to prevent "hackers" from getting your frquency for you garage opener. I haven't confirmed thsi with Genie yet, but given the symptoms, this is the most logical explanation I have found. And since my daughter took one of the cars to collge with her the problem has ceased to exist which supports that explanation all the more.

Trust me, I'm a pro at setting up the homelink after programming three cars about a half dozen times each...

Hmmm...good info. I'll have to check the specs on my opener now. I've got 6 remotes altogether (2 hand held, two Homelink, 1 keypad and 1 key fob for my motorcycle). I wonder if I'm at the limit now.

Homelink Problems

I recived the following reply form Genie Customer service today. Look like 7 remotes is the max number of transmitters...

"The receiver should hold up to 7 remote controls. You might try clearing the receiver and then reprogram. To clear the receiver press and hold the learn button until the red led quits blinking."

Thank you,
