Homemade Panhard Drop?

Has anyone made a homemade panhard drop? I'm wanting to get one, but $50+shipping from Toytec seems like a lot for what it actually is.

I didn't make a pan hard drop but an adjustable pan hard bar.

I made one using the threaded part of a 4runner tierod end.

It cost nothing to make except my time and some electricity.

DOUS is using it now and he is beating the hell out of it. Easy to adjust.

I made a couple. I personally never ran one, and We ended up cutting the one i made for Brian 2 sun off because wheeling hard with the drop caused the entire panhard upper mount to start bending. I made a nicer one for t4r4ife. As far as i know its done the job. Just use 2.5" .250 receiver tubing. Cut one of the 4 sides off, then drill your holes accordingly

mine is holding up great, trail tested and approved and thumbs up for good price lol

I've in the planning stages for making my own right now....was probably going to use some 1/8" Angle Iron butted up and welded in place......does this sound solid enough???

i would use 3/16, panhard bar takes a lotta stress when flexing so i would use as much metal as you can

yours is 1/4. That thing will get some serious stress. I may have a pic of yours test fitted on my truck

EDIT: I checked my photobucket and i had a pic of t4r4lifes on my truck to make sure it fit before i shipped it

What keeps this thing from spinning around the upper bolt?
 
My drop bracket created a lot of extra leverage on that mount. I didn't even wheel on it that much since I put it on and it already started to tweak the whole mount like jmoney mentioned.

I can't run an extended trac bar because my 3rd member and DS are already just a fraction of an inch away from my gas tank skid when I'm flexed now. An extended bar will push it into the gas tank skid. And since I have a Lil Skips skid, I can't just bang it out of the way like the stock one.

I'm just going to leave the panhard in the stock location from here on out. I can't tell a difference on how it feels on road without the pan hard drop anyways.
 
You have to weld it to the stock mount. Just like all PH drops. :)

Ah, I see. You test fit only, didn't go driving with it like that. That makes alot more sense.

I agree that mmml4's looks awesome. It is tough when you are cantilever loading like this thing is and you have to extend it. I would still like to see someone make an extension bracket for the axle side, since that would keep the pivot point higher and reduce the moment. Why hasn't anyone done this yet? Or have I just missed the pictures?

Problem with that is that the mount you would extend up would end up hitting the existing rear crossmember/ and frame. That why you will always see a pretty big drop on the frame side. When its off set off the axle there is no way it can ever interfere with anything. A tall axle side mount would be smashing the frame at some point or the floor.

So there you go :)
 
My driver side sits slightly lower than the passenger side, and the passenger side tire sticks out slightly more than the driver side tire......so I was hoping this drop bracket would remedy this.......

Are you guys saying that a panhard drop bracket is a bad idea??

It depends on what you do with your truck. If you plan on wheeling it hard. Its a horrible idea. You can try and brace the bracket and may have good luck with that. I saw Brian's mount start to taco and bend in from the extra force. The leverage really starts add up

If you are just going to be driving around and not really beating on the truck it fine. I have made a few for people that want them, even though i personally would never put one on my truck.

My truck is a wheeler. I dont care one bit about the axle sitting a little offset. I dont even notice it. My truck gets used. almost every weekend. To the edge of what i feel the truck can handle. A Ph drop not properly braced on a wheeler will end up ripping the stock mount
