hood insulation

I removed the hood insulation pad in preparation to do some wiring.

Are some of you guys running without the insulator? Any down side to not putting it back?

Also, down each side where the hood fits into the fender-

There is one rubber bumper about mid way on each side. Should there be 2 or 3 per side? I can not find an image in the IPL.

That "insulation" is actually a fire blanket.

If, for some reason, your engine ever caught fire, that would fall on the engine in an attempt to smother the fire.

Nothing will happen if you don't have it, as long as the engine doesn't catch fire.

Didn't we discuss this a while back and it turned out the early years NEVER had this insulation? '96-'98 maybe? (My '99 does.)

I know I have seen images of trucks without the insulation, I am just unsure how many were removed and how many came that way from the OEM. I searched but failed to find much. If it is for fire suppression I will re-install it.

I was just thinking about this too. I've got a sport hood with the regular hood insulation on it and it doesn't quite fit right and is kinda torn up so I was contemplating taking it off. I just didn't want to cause any damage to the paint from excessive heat.

We use to take them off on our GT-4 Celica's to help let the heat out. Those 3S-GTE engines were HOT!! Never did anyone ever have any paint issues on that old forum. If the Toyota paint was fine on those hoods, I would be willing to bet we would never have any paint problems with ours.
