I'd start to check local yards first in an effort to save yourself some money. Plus it'll likely be OEM that way.

Yep,
Check HollanderParts.com and find a local salvage yard that has at least five 3rd Gens - you should be able to find one good hood insulator. Remember to bring an upholstery tool with you so that you can pop off all of the plastic fasteners.
Some trivia for you: In the event there is an engine fire the plastic fasteners will melt resulting in releasing the hood insulator which will smoulder and hopefully put out the fire.

Good info. I don't have a hood insulator on my 97 and never even considered this. I'm not sure if hood insulators came on 97s because the catalyst and vacuum routing stickers are on the hood and would have been covered up by the insulator. Must have come on later years?

That's the silliest thing I've heard all year. For the fire to be hot enough to melt those tabs, every other plastic component and wiring harness will have too and the vehicle is a write off at that point. To boot there's a lot more likely places a fire would start than at the very top - and ironically enough, even if you were to have a fire from a fuel leak up on top, the intake plenum would protect it since the rails are underneath
I don't doubt it whatsoever though, that's typically how fire suppression has worked. An antique example just like this idea would be "fire grenades" from the 1800s
I would avoid it if you can, my tabs from the factory are nice and tight but replacement tabs even from Toyota themselves absolutely suck. Some are tight but most are extremely loose and rattle like CRAZY while you're driving. I had a bag of like 2 or 3 dozen and ended up with only 5 or 6 that fit well (old vs new were pretty different so I'm thinking they switched suppliers at some point). The only reason I kept my insulation is because I have a light bar in my hood scoop and the padding hides the wiring and makes it look cleaner, otherwise I would've ditched it years ago

Yeah, I pretty sure it was a '99+ upgrade thing. There are cut-outs for the diagrams but I don't know if the '99holes, say, would match the '97 diagram location.

I tried ordering the hood pad (Toyota 53341-35022 - INSULATOR, HOOD ) and push pins from Amayama about 3 weeks ago. The web site said it was in stock. After a day, their "friendly staff" sent me an email saying my order for the hood pad can't be shipped. Out of stock. They only had the push pins, so I cancelled the order. It will be interesting to see if they fill your order.

Why do you 'need' a hood pad? Not trying to be a d1ck, just curious. Is it for muffling engine noise? Mine was an oily mess and I chucked it when it started ripping at the fasteners. Nice clean paint underneath.
Amayama shows everything "in stock" unless it has either been previously confirmed as discontinued or someone has tried to order it and they update to discontinued. Note, too, that their shipping prices are estimates at time of order - if you refresh the page the shipping rates change randomly. Amaya is still good to go in terms of ordering from, just don't rely on their site confirming availability or not.
