Hood Latch

Hey Guys,

My name is Richard and I am new to the forums. I bought my first Toyota yesterday, 1998 4 runner Limited. Drove it home and went to replace a headlight bulb and could not get hood up. To cut it short, I unbolted everything that could be unbolted and finally got hood up, but something is broke in the latch assembly and now it is just sitting there with the hood up with the latch assembly hanging from the loop that is part of the hood. Something is broken inside the latch assembly and I can't pull, pry, twist, tear, etc. to get the assembly off of the hood. I have ordered a new hood lock assembly and calbe but I have to get the old one off in order to put the new one on. Any suggestions or advice? I want to enjoy this vehicle like everyone else on here but I'm off to a bad start right out of the gate. Thanks in advance foir any advice or comments and thanks for your time.

I hope this pic is not too big. It it is, please feel free to drop the hammer on me. I cannot figure out how to release the hook that is around the loop on the hood. If you need closer pics or from another angle, please feel free to let me know. Thank you for your interest. Aggravating to have it 1 day and haven't driven it 20 miles.
